One Treatise, Thirty-Four Prescriptions, One Moxibustion Method
One treatise, thirty-four prescriptions, one moxibustion method.
Treatise: The diseases of sores (Chuang), scabies (Jie), and tinea (Xuan) are all caused by various "worms" (parasitic pathogens). If not cured promptly, they may persist for three years without healing, becoming malignant diseases. Why? Because these "worms" multiply excessively, and ordinary medicines cannot withstand them. Therefore, prevention is necessary, and one must not take it lightly. In the treatment of scabies and tinea, adding one chi of black snake meat to yellow wine, along with equal parts of Aconitum carmichaelii root processed side product (Wutou), Aconitum carmichaelii root processed lateral root (Fuzi), Ilex rotunda stem (Yinyu), Photinia arbutifolia leaf (Shinan), and Agrimonia pilosa herb (Mangcao), and adding this mixture to Da Qin Jiao Decoction (Large Gentian Decoction) yields significant efficacy. For minor scabies and itching, Xiao Qin Jiao Decoction (Small Gentian Decoction) is also applicable. (The *Qianjin Yao Fang* states: add two liang of black snake to Xiao Qin Jiao Decoction.)
Prescription for Dry and Damp Tinea and Various Scabies Sores:
Agarwood (Chenxiang), Pine joint (Songjie) (one jin each; another version includes Cypress joint (Baijie) and Pine joint (Songjie), one jin each).
Crush the above two ingredients into pieces the size of a finger, place them in a cloth bag, and soak them in sesame oil (MAYOU) for half a shichen (approx. one hour). Remove and take a porcelain crucible with a hole in the bottom, the size of a chicken egg. Place a small handful of pine needles over the hole, set the crucible on a white bowl, and seal the crucible tightly with yellow earth mud to a thickness of five fen. Place the medicinal materials into the crucible, and ignite raw charcoal placed on top of the materials. The distilled liquid will flow into the bowl. Once the charcoal is consumed, open the crucible to collect the juice, apply it to the sores twice daily. This prescription also treats white alopecia (Baitu - scalp tinea), carbuncles (Ju), and malignant sores, leading to recovery. It is recommended to take Xiao Qin Jiao Decoction concurrently for complete cure.
Prescription for Dry and Damp Itching, Malignant Sores, and White Alopecia:
Alum (Fanshi), Sulfur (Liuhuang), Mirabilite (Mangxiao), Large Salt (Dayan) (each three qian), Pine resin (Songzhi) (six he), White sugar (Baitang) (eight liang).
Chop the above six ingredients into finger-sized pieces. Place a steamer lid upside down on a copper vessel, put the steamer on top, and arrange the medicinal pieces on the lid. Cover the medicines with pine resin and white sugar, then cover everything with another large steamer lid. Steam while cooking five sheng of rice. The medicinal juice will drip into the copper vessel below. Keep the collected juice tightly covered. When using, warm the juice and apply it to the sores twice daily.
Secret Prescription for Treating Tinea:
Pound the roots of *Rumex japonicus* (Yangti gen), divide into portions, and mix with white honey. Scrape the edges of the sore until the skin is damaged. First, apply the honey-mixed remedy. After the time it takes to cook one dan of rice, wipe it off and apply a mixture of three-year-old vinegar. Apply to the tinea; once dry, it heals. If the scraped area does not damage the skin, it will not heal.
Prescription for Chronic Scabies and Tinea:
Cinnabar (Dansha), Realgar (Xionghuang), Orpiment (Cihuang) (each one liang), [Ru - likely a textual variant or specific herb, omitted from standard list due to ambiguity], Human hair (Luangfa) (one liang, washed clean), Pine resin (Songzhi), Beeswax (Baila) (each one liang), Croton seed (Badou) (fourteen seeds, peeled), Lard (Zhugao) (two jin).
First, decoct the human hair until completely dissolved. Add pine resin and beeswax, performing the "three up, three down" process (repeated heating and cooling/stirring). Filter out the dregs. Add the powdered minerals (Cinnabar, Realgar, Orpiment) and decoct again until it boils once. Stop. Apply three to several times for cure.
Prescription for Chronic Tinea Not Healing:
Finely grind Mercury frost (Shuiyin shuang) into powder, and mix with lard collected in the twelfth lunar month. First, wash the sore with rice water, dry it, and apply the ointment. It heals upon first application. If it recurs later, reapplying ensures permanent cure. It is excellent. Apply thinly; do not apply thickly.
Another Prescription:
Mercury (Shuiyin), Calcined Alum (Fanshi), Cnidium fruit (Shechuangzi), Coptis rhizome (Huanglian) (each one liang), Lard collected in the twelfth lunar month (seven he). Mix and stir until the mercury disappears, indicating it is ready. Apply to treat all sores regardless of age. (Add one liang of lacquer head and [Ru] to the above prescription.)
Prescription for Various Sores, Tinea, and Carbuncles Not Healing:
Mercury (one jin), Lard collected in the twelfth lunar month (five jin).
In an iron vessel, build a stove with horse dung fuel, and decoct continuously for seven days and nights without stopping the fire. After cooling, retrieve the lard. The mercury can be removed and used separately. Apply this lard to all kinds of sores; they heal immediately upon contact.
Another Prescription:
Cow urine (one sheng), *Rumex japonicus* root (cut, five sheng).
Soak the cut *Rumex japonicus* root overnight, then dry it in the sun. Place it back into the cow urine and soak overnight until the urine is absorbed. Pound into powder and apply to sores and tinea. Mixing with lard enhances efficacy.
Another Prescription:
For all types of scabies and itching, use only mercury and lard, grind extremely fine, and apply.
Another Prescription: Take ten raw Aconitum carmichaelii roots (Wutou), chop them, boil to extract juice, and wash the affected area. It heals.
Prescription for Tinea:
Clean the sore thoroughly, mix soybean paste (jiang ban) and urine, and apply. Stop when healed.
Another Prescription:
Mercury, Turmeric root (Wuyi) (powdered).
Mix with ghee (su) and apply. It heals.
Another Prescription:
At noon, perform moxibustion on the diseased area and on the shadow at three locations marked by surnames. The incantation is: "Worms in the tinea, fuzzy and soft, if you wish to cure, wait for midday."
Another Prescription: Apply ghee mixed with ink.
When any sores or tinea first appear, or when pain and itching begin, use various single-ingredient remedies. Chewing salt and applying it is excellent.
Another Prescription: Use carp... (verb missing in text).
Another Prescription: Use Curcuma longa rhizome (Jianghuang).
Another Prescription: Use Prunus salicina fruit (Niu Lizhi).
Prescription for Tinea:
Grind the tassels of Artemisia annua (Huanghao) into powder and apply. Apply three times during the day and twice at night. All damp tinea cases will heal.
Another Prescription:
On the eighth day of the eighth lunar month at sunrise, have the patient kneel facing east towards a door, holding both sides of the door frame with raised hands. Perform moxibustion on the depression near the shoulder joint (likely referring to Jianjing or adjacent anatomical landmarks). Apply three moxa cones to each side simultaneously. If seven cones are used, it cures in ten days.
Another Prescription: Drink the juice of *Cirsium japonicum* (Staji).
Another Prescription: Drinking Rehmannia glutinosa juice (Dihuang zhi) is good.
Another Prescription: Drinking donkey urine (Lü niao) is beneficial.
Another Prescription: Burn one snake skin and take it with wine; it is beneficial.
Another Prescription: Pound Datura metel seeds (Langdang), mix with honey, and apply as a poultice; it is beneficial.
Another Prescription: Heat thin pancakes and apply thinly once daily; it is beneficial.
Another Prescription: Decoct mugwort (Ai) in vinegar and apply; it heals.
Another Prescription: Pound *Rumex japonicus* root, mix with milk, and apply.
Another Prescription: Mix realgar powder (Xionghuang) with strong vinegar. Wipe the tinea area with a new cloth to cause slight injury, then apply; it is wonderful.
Prescription for Scabies and Sores Persisting for Years:
Fructus Meliae Toosendan (Lianshi) (one sheng), Radix Sanguisorbae (Diyugen), Peach bark (Taopi), Radix Sophorae Flavescentis (Kushen) (each five liang).
Decoct the above four ingredients in ten dou of water until five sheng remain. Wash the affected area with the warm liquid once daily.
Prescription for Scabies and Damp Sores with Oozing, Unbearable Pain and Itching, Yellow Discharge, and Recurrence:
Take *Rumex japonicus* root. Ensure no women, children, cats, or dogs see it. Cleanse thoroughly to remove dirt, finely chop, and roast thoroughly. Mix with strong vinegar. Wash the sore cleanly, apply the mixture, and after a period, rinse with cold water. Apply once daily. For all prescriptions using *Rumex japonicus* root, harvesting before sunrise is best.
Another Prescription:
Make a powder of *Rumex japonicus* root. When itching occurs, scratch until fluid comes out, then dust with the powder. Rub with fresh *Rumex japonicus* root. This is miraculous.
Prescription for Sores, Scabies in Sitting Areas, and Patches Arising After Polyuria/Polydipsia (Ke Li):
Radix Rosae Multiflorae (Qiangweigen), Ranunculus ternatus (Shilongrui), Radix Sophorae Flavescentis (Kushen), Astragalus membranaceus root (Huangqi), Coptis chinensis rhizome (Huanglian), Peony root (Shaoyao) (each three liang, two liang, two liang, two liang, three liang respectively), Prunus salicina root (Queligen), Phellodendron bark (Huangbai), Scutellaria baicalensis root (Huangqin), Angelica sinensis radix (Danggui), Dipsacus asper root (Xuduan), Trichosanthes kirilowii root (Gualou), Rheum palmatum root (Dahuang) (dosages: Qiangweigen 3 liang, Shilongrui 3 liang, Kushen 2 liang, Huangqi 2 liang, Huanglian 2 liang, Shaoyao 3 liang, Queligen 3 liang, Huangbai 3 liang, Huangqin 3 liang, Danggui 1 liang, Xuduan 1 liang, Gualou 4 liang, Dahuang 1 liang).
