Jin Ju (Bird Carbuncle) presents with dozens of swellings resembling chariot covers. Some say swelling occurs after four days, with pain during eating and drinking, and the condition changes. It can be punctured with needles on the tenth day. If the pathogen originates internally, rooted in cold affecting the teeth, manifesting as trismus (lockjaw) and restlessness, death will occur within fifteen days (The prognosis regarding "Shu" is unclear).
Ding Ju (Nail Carbuncle) erupts on both shoulders. This arises from the accumulation of foul blood, which knots and flows internally and externally, blocking Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi), resulting in Ding Ju. After three days, severe swelling and pain affect the whole body; after seven days, trismus occurs. It can be punctured on the tenth day. Without treatment, death occurs in twenty days.
Yin Ju (Yin Carbuncle) erupts on the thigh or inner upper thigh, starting at the waist connection where symptoms cannot stop spontaneously. Frequent drinking but inability to consume much leads to hard, painful swelling after five days. Without treatment, death occurs in three years.
Mai Ju (Pulse Carbuncle) erupts around the neck (or neck). Initially painful, followed by fever, aversion to movement, or inability to eat. This stems from great fear and terror causing Jing Qi (Essence Qi) to rush upward to the chin. The eruption draws toward the ears. Swelling should not occur. Puncture is possible on the twentieth day; without puncture, death occurs in eighty days.
Long Ju (Dragon Carbuncle) erupts on the back, originating near Weishu (BL21) or Shenshu (BL23). Death occurs in twenty days if toxins are not purged via evacuation. Puncture is possible on the ninth day. If the upper part is red and lower part black, or cyan-black, death ensues. If blood and pus are discharged, survival is possible.
Shou Ju (Head Carbuncle) erupts on the back with fever lasting eighty days. High fever causes sweating reaching the neck, pulling the whole body as if coughing. Body heat feels like boiling water. Superficial swelling with shiny skin requires shallow puncture. Without puncture, pathogens enter the abdomen, leading to death in twenty days.
Xing Ju (Walking Carbuncle) erupts like a swelling or recurs intermittently. Puncture at the site of occurrence leads to immediate recovery.
Chong Ju (Thrust Carbuncle) erupts with lower abdominal pain and trembling, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, and dizziness. Condition worsens after five days, changes after six days, leading to death in ten days.
Dun Ju (Mound Carbuncle) erupts on two or five finger tips. Death occurs in eighteen days if not purged. Puncture is possible after four months. If the eruption is black and the abscess is not very red and does not cross joints, it is treatable.
Suo Ju (Scabies Carbuncle) erupts in the armpits or palms. Accompanied by trembling chills/fever and dry throat, excessive drinking causes vomiting. Restlessness or sudden rashes that close up indicate this type. Sweating therapy is indicated; without sweating, death ensues.
Jin Ju (Tendon Carbuncle) erupts on the back along the large tendons on both sides of the spine. Color is pale. Puncture is possible on the eighth day. If the abscess is deep in the muscle belly, death occurs in ninety days.
Chen Gan Ju (Old Dry Carbuncle) erupts on both arms. Severe pain prevents movement for three to four days. Fever and redness appear on the fiftieth day. Puncture is possible on the sixtieth day. If no blood flows upon puncture, death occurs in three to four days (some say the disease resolves).
Zao Ju (Flea Carbuncle) erupts on the fingertips of hands and feet. Color remains unchanged initially. Puncture is possible within ten days. Delayed puncture may lead to Shi Yong (Eating Abscess); if located in the armpit, death occurs in three years.
Cang Ju (Granary Carbuncle) begins with itching followed by pain, caused by old cold pathogen invading the Zang organs. Severe eruption forms Cang Ju. Puncture is possible on the ninth day; death occurs in ninety days.
Chi Ju (Red Carbuncle) presents with hard, nodular swelling and fever. Inability to sit, walk, bend, or extend limbs. Once pus forms, puncture leads to recovery.
Chi Ju (or Bai Ju/White Carbuncle) erupts on the arm or elbow rear with itching, eye pain damaging essence, fever, and profuse sweating. Death occurs in five to six days.
Chi Ju erupting on the chest is treatable.
Chi Ju erupting at Bitshu (Huantiao area) is treatable within six months; untreated, death occurs after one year.
Chi Ju erupting on the inner thigh: hard texture indicates death; soft/moist texture indicates treatability.
Chi Ju erupting in the palm is treatable.
Chi Ju erupting on the shin is untreatable and fatal.
Hei Ju (Black Carbuncle) presents with swelling above the major bones of the back. Puncture is possible on the eighth day. Delayed puncture transforms it into Gu Ju (Bone Carbuncle) with unceasing pus discharge and expulsion of bone fragments, leading to death in sixty days.
Hei Ju erupting in the deep axilla is fatal.
Hei Ju erupting in the ear, sized like rice grains, is named Wen Ju and is fatal.
Hei Ju erupting on the shoulder is fatal.
Hei Ju erupting in Quepen (Supraclavicular fossa), named Fu Yong (Hidden Abscess), is fatal.
Hei Ju erupting above and below the elbow is treatable and non-fatal.
Hei Ju erupting on the calf is fatal.
Hei Ju erupting on the patella: hard texture indicates death; soft/moist texture indicates treatability.
Hei Ju erupting on the dorsum pedis with hard texture is fatal. Long-standing foot abscess with red color is fatal.
Swelling/Abscess on the Pericardium Meridian (Hand Jueyin) of the thigh/shin leads to death in six days; if pus/blood discharges, death in sixty days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Gallbladder Meridian (Foot Shaoyang) of the neck leads to death in eight days; if pus/blood discharges, death in ten days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Bladder Meridian (Foot Taiyang) connecting to Yangming, located in the neck, leads to death in ten days; if pus/blood discharges, death in seven days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Taiyang Meridian of the sacrum involving Shaoyang at the sole leads to death in eight days; if pus/blood discharges, death in eighty days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Yangming Meridian of the head located in the sacrum leads to death in six days; if pus/blood discharges, death in sixty days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Taiyang Meridian of the thigh involving Foot Taiyang leads to death in seventy days; if pus/blood discharges, death in one hundred days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Taiyang/Taiyin Meridians of the shoulder involving the shin leads to death in eight days; if pus/blood discharges, death in four hundred days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Shaoyang Meridian of the leg located in the hypochondrium leads to death in eight days; if pus/blood discharges, death in six hundred days.
Swelling/Abscess on the Large Intestine Meridian (Hand Yangming) in the deep axilla leads to death in one year; if pus/blood discharges, death in two years.
