Indicated for pediatric fetal cold presenting with curled-up crying, convulsive epilepsy and abdominal distension/fullness, anorexia, and stools that are greenish-yellow; also treats adult deficiency-cold syndromes, internal cold, or excess patterns where emetic or purgative therapies are contraindicated. Formula:
*Calcitum Vitriolicum* (one *jin*, calcined for half a day)
Take the above single herb, grind into fine powder, mix with honey to form pills. Adults take two pills the size of *Wuzi* (seeds of *Catalpa ovata*) per dose, three times daily. For children, reduce the dosage appropriately, adjusting according to specific conditions. The treatment is considered effective when warmth is felt in the abdomen; excess pathogens should be eliminated. The efficacy is miraculous and excellent.
Taboos regarding pediatric *Ke Wu* (alien pathogen invasion):
Hair must not be present in the silk floss of children's clothing. The same applies to shoes.
Individuals wearing white clothes with green belts, or green clothes with white belts, may induce *Ke Wu* in children.
Anyone returning from long journeys with un-dried horse sweat, travelers who have not bathed or changed clothes before seeing children, will cause *Ke Wu*. One must avoid horses, items on horses, and the smell of horses. Symptoms of *Ke Wu* in children include vomiting and excreting greenish-yellow fluid, abdominal pain, body arching backward or lying on the side resembling epilepsy, but without upward deviation of the eyes, reduced sleep, complexion changing among five colors, and a wiry and tense pulse. If left untreated for too long, it becomes difficult to cure. Treatment method:
Mix water with fermented soybean (*Douchi*), mash until soft, and form pills the size of a chicken egg. Rub these pills five times each over the infant's fontanelle and the palms and soles of the feet. Also rub up and down around the heart, abdomen, and navel. After a short while, break open the pill; if fine hairs are found inside, discard them in the middle of the road, and the illness will be cured.
If vomiting persists, moxa-heat therapy should be applied to *Jianshi* (PC5), *Dadu* (SP2), *Yinbai* (SP1), and *Sanyinjiao* (SP6), three moxa cones per acupoint.
Alternatively, use powder pills in the same manner as the fermented soybean pills, applying saliva to them. The incantation for spitting is as follows:
"Grandfather Mo, Grandmother Mo, Child Mo, if it is *Ke Wu*, let it start with me. Although Bian Que was skilled, he was not as effective as proper spitting. After spitting, discard the pill in the road."
Another formula:
Place a knife horizontally on the stove. Untie the child's clothes and manipulate the heart and abdomen. Take the knife towards the child, recite the incantation, spit, and point the knife at the heart and abdomen. Say: "Feifei, Huanghuang, the sun rises in the east, turning from shade to sunlight. Ge Gong and Ge Mu, unknown whose son you are, you come without looking, you leave without glancing back. Passing through the beam where one clashes with living people, gods of dusty heavens, ghosts under the door, passing by the great knife ring rhino, spit seven times facing the Kitchen God. The alien pathogen is cured, the child is startled. Spit 'Feifei' twice like this, pointing the knife each time. The incantation should be recited three times to finish. Then use one fermented soybean pill, rubbing it five or six times as described above. Break this pill open to inspect; there will be hair inside. Discard the pill in the road, and the illness will be cured."
Treatment for sudden onset of *Ke Wu* in children:
Take the nose of a bronze mirror, heat it until red-hot, place it in a small amount of wine. Older children drink it; younger children who cannot drink can be fed it while holding food in their mouths, which will cure the condition.
Another formula:
Take three *sheng* of horse manure, burn it until no smoke remains. Boil in three *sheng* of wine for three boils. Remove the dregs and bathe the child in the liquid, which will result in recovery.
