Treatment for sudden tongue swelling resembling a blown blister, filling the mouth and overflowing, with blocked respiration; if not treated immediately, it can be fatal:
Immediately scrape the swelling with fingers to drain the fluid, and it will heal. Alternatively, use a *pibao* (a type of surgical knife) to lacerate it at the front. (According to *Qianjin Yaofang*: lacerate both sides.)
Another prescription: Take one *sheng* (approx. 200ml) of vinegar (*Ku Jiu*), boil ten pieces of *Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma) until reduced to eight *he* (approx. 160ml). Hold in the mouth slowly and spit out. *Banxia* irritates the throat, so it must be thoroughly cooked. Wash away the slippery residue before use; do not swallow the liquid. Adding one *liang* (approx. 40g) of fresh ginger is beneficial.
For black spots on the tongue with several holes and bleeding like a gushing spring, which indicates Heart disease:
Prescription:
*Rongyan* (Natrii Sulfas), five *liang*; *Huangqin* (Scutellariae Radix), five *liang*; *Huangbai* (Phellodendri Cortex), five *liang*; *Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), five *liang*; *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix), two *liang*; *Guixin* (Cinnamomi Ramulus), two *liang*; *Gancao* (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), one *liang*, roasted.
Grind the above seven herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to form pills. Take ten pills per dose, sized like wu-tzu seeds, three times daily. Simultaneously cauterize the lesion with a red-hot iron.
For sudden tongue swelling rising like a blown blister, blocking the mouth and throat, with near-respiratory arrest; if not treated immediately, it can be fatal. Treatment:
Use a blade to lacerate the largest vessels on both sides to induce bleeding. Do not pierce the central vessel under the tongue, as uncontrolled bleeding can be fatal. After releasing several *sheng* of blood, apply a red-hot iron to the wound multiple times to stop the hemorrhage.
Another prescription: Holding licorice juice in the mouth is beneficial.
[Total fourteen prescriptions]
For sudden throat swelling preventing swallowing:
Take one bunch of Chinese chive (*Jiu Cai*), crush and stir-fry/warm it, then apply as a compress. Replace when cool. This is effective.
Another prescription: Hold *Jing Li* (Ampelopsis Japonica Juice) in the mouth and swallow slowly.
Another prescription: Hold high-quality vinegar in the mouth; this is also good for oral ulcers.
For *Hou Bi* (Throat Obstruction) where even saliva cannot be swallowed:
*Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma)
One ingredient: Break finely into fourteen pieces the size of chess coins. Take one egg, crack the top like a chestnut. Remove the yolk and white. Insert the *Banxia* pieces, fill with vinegar, and simmer over very low heat. Take half the volume, cool it, and drink. It will heal.
*Hou Bi* Prescription:
Take one *Fuzi* (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), peel it, coat with honey, and roast over fire until dry. Repeat coating and roasting. Hold in the mouth for a moment, swallow the juice, and it will heal.
Another prescription: Hold one piece of *Shu Shengma* ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma), and it will heal immediately.
For *Hou Bi*:
Wrap a string around the thumb, prick to bleed about the amount of a large soybean. The condition will resolve; the little finger is also suitable.
For "Horse Throat Obstruction" (*Ma Hou Bi*):
Burn one *cunbi* (spoonful) of ash from *Malan Gen* (Kalimeris Indica Root). Burn mulberry branches to extract juice. Mix and ingest. For sore throat with breathing difficulty, or toxic qi obstruction and toxic attack on the throat:
*Guixin* (Cinnamomi Ramulus), half *liang*; *Xingren* (Armeniacae Semen), one *liang*, remove tips and skins, roast.
Grind the above two ingredients into powder. Wrap in cotton cloth, size of a jujube. Hold in the mouth and swallow the juice.
Another prescription: Prick the nail fold of the little finger to induce bleeding; the condition will resolve. Pricking either hand induces bleeding; this method is mysterious and works immediately.
For *Shi Yan* (Corpse Throat) resulting in loss of voice:
Wine, one *sheng*; Dried Ginger (*Gan Jiang*), ten *liang*, powdered; Butter/Su (*Su*), one *sheng*.
Mix two *he* of wine, one spoonful of butter, and one spoonful of ginger powder. Ingest. Three times daily. Take after meals. Also treats Lung diseases.
For *Shi Yan* with itching and pain in the throat, unable to vomit or swallow, resembling gu poison:
Hold fifty-day-old fresh ginger in the mouth until healed.
For swollen fleshy growths in the throat preventing eating:
Insert a bamboo tube into the mouth first. Then press a red-hot iron against the lesion through the bamboo tube. Within a few applications, it will heal.
For sudden swelling and elongation of the uvula (*Xuan Yong*):
Equal parts of Dried Ginger (*Gan Jiang*) and *Banxia* (Pinelliae Rhizoma), ground into powder. Apply a small amount to the base of the tongue. *Banxia* must be washed and used according to the prescribed method.
Another prescription: Apply salt powder to the "Jin Tou" (likely referring to a specific anatomical point or typo in original text, retained as is) while opening the mouth and pressing against it. Five times daily, it will naturally shrink.
