Prescription for wind-dian (wind-induced epilepsy) causing hypochondriac pain, vomiting upon attack, and tinnitus like cicada singing:
Xiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong Rhizome), Ben (Ligusticum sinense Rhizome), Ru [Note: Text says 'Ru', likely referring to a specific herb or typo in source, kept as transliteration/term] (each 5 liang).
The above three herbs are sliced, placed in 5 sheng of fine wine, boiled down to 3 sheng, and taken at one time. For those who are emaciated, divide into two doses, aiming for profuse sweating.
Prescription for treating wind-dian-kuang (wind-induced mania/epilepsy) and various diseases:
Damaizi (Cannabis sativa Seed) (4 sheng, of superior quality).
The above single herb is boiled in 6 sheng of water with fierce fire until the seeds sprout. Remove the dregs, and decoct until 7 sheng remain. Take at one time on an empty stomach in the morning. If the patient does not have an attack, or speaks excessively, do not be alarmed; simply have someone massage the hands and feet, and the condition will stabilize shortly. All cases treated with three doses are cured, making the body light and expelling all evil pathogens.
Prescription for wind-li-jie (wind affecting joints) causing limb pain as if hammered and forged, unbearable:
Fangji (Stephania tetrandra Root), Fuling (Poria cocos Sclerotium), Shengjiang (Zingiber officinale Rhizome, sliced), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Wutou (Aconitum carmichaelii Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (7 pieces, peeled), Renshen (Panax ginseng Root et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis macrocephalae Rhizoma) (each 4 liang), Wutou (7 pieces, peeled), Renshen (3 liang), Baizhu (6 liang).
*Correction based on text structure*: Fangji, Fuling, Shengjiang (sliced), Guixin (each 4 liang); Wutou (7 pieces, peeled); Renshen (3 liang); Baizhu (6 liang).
The above eight herbs are cut into small pieces, boiled in 1 dou of water until reduced to 2.5 sheng. Take 8 ge per dose, three times daily. After taking the medicine, there should be a slight warmth and relief from bi-syndrome (numbness/pain); do not be alarmed. If no sensation is felt, prepare another dose and continue until sensation is achieved. When using Wutou, always peel it and stir-fry until black before use, rendering it non-toxic.
Prescription for stroke (zhong-feng) causing spasm of hands and feet, pain in all joints, vexation, heat, mental confusion, aversion to cold, and loss of appetite for several days:
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, nodes removed) (0.5 fen), Duhuo (Angelicae pubescentis Radix) (1 liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (0.3 fen), Huangqi (Astragali Membranacei Radix) (0.5 liang), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang).
The above five herbs are cut into small pieces, boiled in 5 sheng of water until reduced to 2 sheng. Remove dregs and divide into two doses. The first dose induces slight sweating; the second dose induces profuse sweating. If there is heat in the heart, add Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 0.5 liang; if abdominal fullness, add Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) 1 piece; if qi rebellion, add Renshen (Panax ginseng Root et Rhizoma) 0.3 fen; if palpitations, add Muli (Ostreae Concha) 0.3 fen; if thirst, add Gualou (Trichosanthis Radix) 0.3 fen; if pre-existing cold, add Bajiao Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) 1 piece. This is a formula by Zhang Zhongjing, mysterious and not widely transmitted.
