Bai Lian (Ampelopsis Radix), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger), Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed), Suan Zao (Ziziphus Seed), Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart), Shao Yao (Peony Root), Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, each 1 sheng), Fu Zi (Aconite Lateral Root, three pieces, processed, skin removed).
The above ten ingredients are cut into small pieces, soaked in two dou of wine overnight, boiled three times. Take one sheng per dose, three times a day. The patient may rise while leaning on a cane. Those who cannot drink alcohol should take five ge.
Formula for treating Wind-Dampness causing pain and bi-syndrome in the four limbs, spasmodic urgency, and edema:
Mu Fang Ji (Stephania Root, 3 liang), Fu Ling (Poria, 1 liang), Sang Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark, sliced, 2 sheng), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 3 liang), Xiong Duan (Ligusticum Rhizome, 3 liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, 1.5 liang), Da Zao (Jujube, twenty pieces, split), Shao Yao (Peony Root, 2 liang), Ma Huang (Ephedra Stem, 2 liang, nodes removed).
The above nine ingredients are cut into small pieces. Use twelve sheng of water, first boil Ma Huang until the volume decreases by one sheng, then add the remaining herbs and boil to obtain three sheng of decoction. Divide into three doses. Allow gradual sweating over the whole body, then apply powder to the skin. Avoid wind and cold. (In another version, use 4 liang of Fu Ling and 3 liang of Ma Huang.)
Treatment for Wind pathogen persisting for thirty years:
Song Ye (Pine Needle, 1 jin), sliced. Boil in one dou of wine to obtain two sheng of decoction. Take in one dose. Sweating is desirable.
Treatment for all types of Wind-Deficiency syndromes (especially for those suffering from severe headaches as if the head would burst):
Xing Ren (Apricot Seed, 9 sheng, skin and tips removed, double-kernel seeds discarded, dried in the sun).
The above single ingredient is ground into powder. Grind and filter with nine sheng of water, similar to the method of making porridge. Simmer over low heat until foam resembling floating sesame seeds appears on the surface. Take one spoonful mixed with soup or porridge, taken with wine. Take at every meal, without limit on quantity. After seven days of administration, profuse sweating will occur; after twenty days, sweating stops. Avoid wind and cold, and refrain from consuming pork, fish, chicken, garlic, and strong vinegar. After one course, various Wind symptoms will subside, and recovery occurs. In spring and summer, due to concern about the cold nature of vinegar, prepare it in small amounts for consumption. After the ninth lunar month in autumn, proceed with decoction. This method is miraculous and should be kept strictly confidential.
Treatment for Wind-stroke with fever:
Da Ji (Kansui Root), Ku Shen (Sophora Root) (in equal proportions).
The above two ingredients are crushed and sifted. Take half a sheng of the powder. Boil in ten dou of sour rice wash water for three boils. Use this liquid to wash the body from top to bottom. Recovery is immediate. Stop when feeling cold. For children, use an amount held between three fingers, with four sheng of sour rice wash water, boiled according to the above method.
