After a long illness, if bowel movement is blocked for a month, there is no need to worry. Simply tonify the True Yin (Zhēn Yīn, the fundamental yin essence of the body), so that Jing (Essence) is sufficient to generate Blood, and Blood is sufficient to moisten the intestines, allowing stool to pass naturally. The prescription is as follows:
Prepared Rehmannia Root (Shú Dì Huáng), Scrophularia Root (Xuán Shēn), and Angelica Sinensis Root (Dāng Guī) each 1 liang; Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuān Xiōng) 5 qián; Hemp Seed (Huǒ Má Rén) 1 qián; Rhubarb (Dà Huáng) 1 qián; Peach Kernel (Táo Rén) 10 seeds; Safflower (Hóng Huā) 3 fēn; Honey 1 bowl. Decoct with water and take orally.
For constipation, the common method is to use purgative formulas. However, long-term use creates a habit of dependence, so this method is used in conjunction.
Take one pig gallbladder, extract the bile, add a small amount of vinegar, and take a bamboo tube 3-4 cun long. Insert half of it into the anus and enema the bile. After about the time it takes to eat one meal, defecation should occur. Alternatively, decoct Sichuan Pepper (Huā Jiāo) and Fermented Soybean (Dòu Chǐ) in water, then mix with Green Onion Root Juice (Cōng Gēn Zhī), Sesame Oil (Má Yóu), and Rice Wash Water (Gān Diàn) for enema, which also promotes bowel movement. Another option is to decoct Peach Bark (Táo Bái Pí), Sophora Flavescens Root (Kǔ Shēn), Mugwort (Ài), and Jujube (Dà Zào) for enema, which also works; these methods also treat infantile malnutrition dysentery and malignant sores. When performing the enema, the medicinal liquid must be slightly warm, not too hot or too cold.
Common diuretic herbs include Plantago Seed (Chē Qián Zǐ) and Alisma Rhizome (Zé Xiè). Their effect is slow and mild, inferior to the convenience of using a urethral catheterization technique.
Insert the sharp end of a green onion leaf into the urethral meatus, deep to about 3 cun, and gently blow with your mouth; urination will flow freely. Alternatively, mix salt powder with green onion and blow it in, allowing the salt to enter the urethra, which also facilitates flow. Or, take one pig bladder, tie a goose feather quill to the opening, inflate it by blowing until full, tie the upper hole tightly with silk thread, insert the sharp end of the feather quill into the urethral meatus, press the bladder with your hand, allowing air to penetrate from the urethra into the bladder, causing urine to flow naturally.
The limbs, joints, zang-fu organs, when stagnant and accumulated without dispersion, easily lead to eight types of ailments: one is Wind; two is Cold; three is Summerheat; four is Dampness; five is Hunger; six is Fullness; seven is Labor; eight is Idleness. For all such ailments, before they fully form, one should guide and disperse them to consolidate the internal body, preventing external pathogens from entering. Once infected, one should observe the affected organs, follow the Cou Li (interstitial spaces/skin texture), and use surgical massage to disperse them. The efficacy is much faster than decoctions, pills, or powders. Described as follows:
(1) Twist hands together like washing hands. (2) Hands flip back and forth towards the chest. (3) Hands grasp and press together, same on both sides. (4) Hold hands as if drawing a bow of five shi strength, same on both sides. (5) Hands press heavily upon each other while slowly twisting the body, same on both sides. (6) Make fists and punch forward, same on both sides. (7) Make fists and pull back sharply; this is the method to open the chest, same on both sides. (8) Like pushing stones, same on both sides. (9) Strike the back with hands reversed, same on both sides. (10) Place both hands on the ground, shrink the body and curve the back, raise upwards three times. (11) Embrace head with both hands and twist upwards; this is the method to draw out the ribs. (12) Sit upright with slanted body, leaning sideways like pushing mountains, same on both sides. (13) Sit upright extending both legs, then extend one foot forward vacuously, same on both sides. (14) Press hands on ground and turn head back; this is the Tiger Gaze method. Same on both sides. (15) Stand and bend backwards three times. (16) Clasp hands tightly, step on hands and feet with feet, same on both sides. (17) Stand up and tread vacuously forward and backward with feet, same on both sides. (18) Sit upright extending both legs, use the extended foot corresponding to the hand's hook position to touch the knee, press with hand, same on both sides.
These eighteen methods apply regardless of age. If performed three times daily, after one month, all diseases will be eliminated. Movement will be swift as a galloping horse, benefiting longevity, increasing appetite, clarifying vision, lightening the body, and eliminating fatigue.
