Grind all ingredients into powder. Take a piece of yellow mud the size of a fist, mix evenly with the medicine, add water to adjust the consistency like soft rice, and form into earthen cakes. Use five Taiping Tongbao copper coins, arrange them according to the Five Directions (East, South, West, North, Center). On the smooth side of the coins, inscribe the characters Gold, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Place the coins with the inscribed side down and the coin face up, arranged according to the Five Directions. Place sand grains the size of beans, four pieces per coin, into the gaps of the five characters. This must be placed on dry yellow earth, aligned with the earthen cake. Cover with a new clay pot, then cover the pot with dry yellow earth. In winter, process for ten days; in summer, for five days. Remove and harvest from the coins. Grind finely for medicinal use. The processing must not be too old (over-processed) nor too tender (under-processed), but must be just right.

For selection, regardless of thickness, only those with bright, clean, and lustrous color are suitable for refining. Those with yellow or red colors are unsuitable. During refining, place one jin of the material in a gold or silver vessel. Place this vessel inside a large cauldron filled with water, ensuring the vessel is submerged. Boil maintaining a gentle simmer like fish eyes bubbling, adding water as it evaporates. If the material is thin powder, boil for three days and nights; if it is雁齿 (goose-tooth shaped) or thick/fatty stalactites, boil for seven days and nights. Wait until the color turns yellowish-white, indicating it is ready. If unsure if it is raw, continue boiling; ten days total is ideal. After boiling, remove from the gold/silver vessel. The water in the cauldron will become yellow and turbid; discard it, do not let anyone consume it. Add clear water back into the inner vessel, boil for about half a day, then remove. The water should remain clear; if it does not change color, stop. The stalactite is now non-toxic.
