Take refined Zhongru (Stalactite) and place it in a porcelain vessel. Pound it into fragments using a jade pestle, then add water to grind it. As the water evaporates, replenish with fresh water, maintaining a consistency resembling thin rice gruel. The fine particles of Zhongru will float on top, while coarse particles sink to the bottom. Continue grinding around the pestle to facilitate fragmentation. Grind continuously for five days until the mixture resembles milk; by the seventh or eighth day, it will emit a white luster, which is visually appealing. Test a small amount on the arm; it should feel as smooth as a silkworm found in books. If applied with water and does not wash away but retains its form, it indicates that the processing is complete ("cooked"). If it dissolves and runs off with water, it is still raw ("uncooked") and requires further grinding. The standard is that it does not disperse in water. After completion, clarify the liquid, dry it in the sun, and prepare it into pills or powders for administration at will.
Huatuo’s Nourishing Life and Ingestion Method Divine Formula
This substance primarily eliminates myriad diseases; long-term use can prolong life. Preparation method: Select high-quality Poria (Fu Ling), steam it whole with the skin intact, remove it, and rinse with hot water until the color turns white and the taste becomes sweet. Dry it, pound it, and sieve it to obtain three dou of powder. Mix this with one shi of aged wine and one dou of honey. Place the mixture in an urn with a capacity of one and a half shi, stir thoroughly one hundred times, and seal tightly to prevent gas leakage. Ferment for fifty days in winter or twenty-one days in summer. The "su" (rich cream/extract) will float on the surface of the wine. Collect the su for drinking; it tastes sweet and pleasant like nectar. It can also be formed into cakes, palm-sized, and dried in the shade in an empty room. Consuming one cake can suppress hunger for a full day.
This substance treats myriad diseases, dispelling various wind pathogens, deficiency-fatigue, and cold invasions. Preparation method: Select almonds from sources known for their extremely sweet and fragrant quality, one shi (strictly avoid wild mountain almonds due to their high toxicity which can be fatal). Choose only complete kernels, peel them, remove the tips, and lightly roast them. Pound into a fine powder. Take two shi of fine wine, grind the almonds to extract the juice, yielding one and a half shi of juice. Add one dou of honey to the almond juice and simmer until extremely thick, resembling milk. Place in a two-shi urn, stir, and seal with mud to prevent leakage. Follow the same method as the Poria Su above. After thirty days, observe the formation of su on the wine surface. Collect the su and store it in a sealed porcelain vessel. Seal the remaining wine separately. Shape the medicinal material into balls the size of pears and dry them in an empty room. Consumption enables the practitioner to abstain from grain food.
