The Yin collaterals circulate in the abdomen, and the Yang collaterals circulate in the back. Treating along the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) ensures that all branch vessels can extend without obstruction.
A person suffered from a foot ailment and was unable to walk. After taking the pulse, Master Hua immediately instructed him to undress. He marked dozens of points on the back, spaced one or five cun apart, stating that the pathogenic factors could not withstand these points. He advised moxibustion of seven moxa cones at each point. Once the moxibustion wounds healed, the patient regained the ability to walk. In subsequent cured cases, the moxibustion sites were located on both sides of the back, arranged vertically with even spacing, straight and uniform like a plumb line.
Commentary: Master Hua primarily used four-character verses. Recognizing the limitations of herbal medicine, he substituted it with moxibustion. People say that locating acupoints is not difficult, but finding the correct ones is. I argue that locating acupoints is not difficult, as there are charts to refer to and anatomical landmarks to verify. The true difficulty lies in determining whether a disease is suitable for moxibustion, where to begin, and where to stop. This requires courage and insight, which is genuinely challenging. It is precisely this courage and insight that laid the foundation for Master Hua's great fame in later generations. (Sun Simiao)
Concealing illness and avoiding medical treatment leads to death.
The fermentation process of wine is sufficient to damage the lung lobes and harm the intestines and stomach; only Puerariae Flos (Kudzu Flower) can resolve alcohol toxicity. Yan Xin waited with several others to see the Master. The Master happened to arrive and asked Yan Xin, "How is your health?" Yan Xin replied, "I have no other ailments." The Master said, "Your facial appearance indicates an impending acute condition. Do not drink excessively; if you do, it will be incurable." He gave Yan Xin Puerariae Flos powder to take. Yan Xin did not believe him and drank more wine. Upon returning home and walking a few li, he suddenly experienced dizziness and fell from his carriage. Being helped up and transported home by cart, he died overnight. (Sun Simiao's Note)
Taking advantage of deficiency to engage in sexual intercourse leads to death.
Thus, Dun Zixian, a Duzhu (official title), fell ill and had already recovered when he visited the Master. The Master took his pulse and said, "Your body is still deficient and has not yet fully recovered. Do not engage in strenuous activities. If you engage in sexual intercourse, you will die. At the moment of death, your tongue will protrude several inches." His wife, hearing that his illness had cleared, traveled over a hundred li to visit him. They stayed overnight and engaged in sexual intercourse. Three days later, the illness recurred exactly as the Master had predicted.
Commentary: The more insufficient the Kidney Water becomes, the more recklessly the Ministerial Fire moves. Therefore, those suffering from deficiency depletion tend to desire proximity to women. This results in a situation where the woman wishes to refuse but cannot, accompanied by waist pain as severe as being cut,
