The origin of this syndrome is the intrusion of external qi from visitors. The infant frequently vomits yellow, green, and white phlegm from the throat; water and grain nutrients separate and fail to transform; abdominal pain is severe and twisting; facial color changes. Although the appearance resembles epilepsy (Xian Zheng), the eyes do not roll upward toward the ears. The prescription is as follows:
Longdan (Gentianae Radix), Goutengpi (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried) each 1 fen, and Qianglang (Scarabaeus Siccus, honey-fried).
Take one sheng of water, decoct to obtain five he. For infants aged one to seven days, take one he divided into three doses; for those aged eight to fifteen days, take one and a half he divided into three doses; for those aged sixteen to twenty-plus days, or forty days, use the entire five he divided into three doses; children up to ten years old follow this same method. Stop administration once bowel movement occurs; do not continue taking it.
Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) 2 fen, Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, honey-fried), Maimian (Tritici Farina, roasted), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, honey-fried), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) each 2 liang, Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, honey-fried), Fuling (Poria).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients, mix with honey to form pills the size of small beans. Take three times daily, adjusting dosage according to circumstances.
Yuanhua (Genkwa Flos), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) each 4 fen; Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Xionghuang (Realgar) each 10 fen.
Crush and sieve the four ingredients into powder, mix with honey, and pound another thousand times. For infants under one year to three years old, administer one pill the size of millet grains. Place the pill in the infant's throat while the mother breastfeeds.
Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, roasted) 4 fen, Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 4 liang, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) 2 liang, Daizhe (Haematitum) 1 liang, Gansui (Kansui Radix, roasted) 2 liang, Badou (Crotonis Fructus, dehearted, depelted, roasted) 300 seeds.
Crush and sieve the ingredients separately. Pound Badou and Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum) until they form a paste, then pound together thousands of times to ensure thorough mixing. If the potency is considered too strong, add a little honey. For hundred-day-old infants, administer ten pills the size of broad beans; for infants over hundred days to one year old, administer twenty pills; apply similar logic for other ages. Continue until the medicine is expelled in the stool; if not expelled, repeat the initial dose.
Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix, honey-fried until yellow) 10 fen, Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Dieyu (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, honey-fried), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) each 4 fen; Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 8 fen; Fuling (Poria) 6 fen; Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) each 2 fen.
Crush and sieve the ingredients, mix with honey to form pills the size of soybeans. Take five pills per dose, twice daily.
