[Formula of Old Paper from Silkworm Eggs]
Burn the old paper left after silkworms lay eggs into powder, and take it with wine to prevent pregnancy for life. Alternatively, decoact quicksilver (Mercurius) in oil. Take one pill the size of a jujube on an empty stomach once a day to permanently terminate fertility without harming the body. If already pregnant and wishing to abort, use the following formula:
Gualou (Trichosanthes Fruit), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart) each 3 liang; Chi (Fermented Soybean) 1 sheng.
Decoct in 4 sheng of water until reduced to 1.5 sheng, and divide into doses for administration.
The patient presents with breast swelling, enlargement, hardness, reddish-purple discoloration, inability to tolerate clothing contact, and unbearable pain. Treatment uses the following formula:
Dahuang (Rhubarb Root), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Zhishi (Immature Bitter Orange), Matihorse (Horseshoe Crab Shell or similar, here likely referring to a specific local herb or processed material, traditionally 'Matixie' but context suggests a topical/internal agent, literal 'Ma Ti' often refers to horse hoof but in TCM formulas like this usually implies a specific processed ingredient; however, standard texts often list 'Matixie' or similar. Given the text says 'Ma Ti', we translate literally as Horse Hoof/Tartar if applicable, but in modern TCM context for mastitis, this might be a variant. Let's stick to literal 'Ma Ti' or interpret as 'Hippocastanum' if applicable? No, 'Ma Ti' is rare. In some contexts, it refers to 'Ma Zi Ren' or similar. However, strictly translating 'Ma Ti' as Horse Hoof is risky. Let's look at similar formulas. Actually, 'Ma Ti' might be a typo for 'Ma Xing Shi Gan' components or similar? No. Let's assume it refers to a specific mineral or animal product. For safety, use 'Ma Ti (processed)' or check if it means 'Tiger Bone' substitute? Unlikely. Let's use 'Ma Ti (Horse Hoof-like substance)' or simply 'Ma Ti'. *Correction*: In some ancient texts, 'Ma Ti' might refer to 'Ma Qian Zi' (Strychnos) or similar toxic herbs, but here it is fried yellow. Let's translate as 'Ma Ti (processed)' to be safe, or 'Horse Hoof' if literal. *Re-evaluation*: In the context of "Da Huang, Shao Yao, Zhi Shi", this looks like a variation of Chengqi Tang or similar purgatives, but added for mastitis. 'Ma Ti' is obscure. I will translate as 'Ma Ti (processed)' to avoid hallucination.)
Grind the above four ingredients into equal parts powder. Take one cun bi (measure) with wine. Cover with blankets to induce sweating. The patient should fall asleep; upon waking, the swelling should dissipate and pain cease, resolving overnight with near-perfect efficacy. Administer another cun bi the next morning. Avoid exposure to wind-cold and raw/cold foods.
At the onset of this disease, use:
Fresh Pugongying (Dandelion Herb), including roots and leaves.
Crush and extract juice, mix with wine for oral administration. Simultaneously drink Congtang (Scallion Decoction), cover with blankets, sleep, and induce sweating for recovery. If ulceration has occurred, use the following:
Fengfang (Beehive Honeycomb), Xiongshushi (Male Rat Feces), Chuanlianzi (Evodia Fruit) in equal parts. Also include Wa (Tile, calcined). Grind into powder and apply externally. Internally administer:
Da Gualou (Large Trichosanthes Fruit, preferably multi-seeded) 1 piece, Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) 5 qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) 4 qian, Moyao (Myrrh) 3 qian, Ruxiang (Olibanum/Frankincense) 1 qian.
Decoct in two bowls of aged wine until reduced to 80%, and take warm. Alternatively, remove Danggui and add Zaocispina (Gleditsia Spine) 1 liang 6 qian for faster effect; as recovery approaches, add Renshen (Ginseng Root), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) to support the primordial qi.
Collect withered Shuixian (Narcissus Bulb), hang under the eaves to dry in the wind, crush, and apply topically for excellent efficacy.
Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart), Gancao (Licorice Root) each 2 fen; Wutou (Prepared Aconite Root) 1 fen.
Grind together into powder, mix with Kujiu (Bitter Vinegar/Wine), apply to paper, and cover the affected area. When pus transforms into fluid, the effect is miraculous.
Breast swelling and pain during pregnancy before delivery is called Rushui (Blowing Milk). Treatment uses the following formula:
Sharen (Amomum Fruit) 5 fen (ground); Dongkuizi (Malva Seed) 8 fen (ground); Pugongying (Dandelion Herb) 5 qian; Gualouren (Trichosanthes Seed) 3 qian.
Decoct in water and take orally. Externally use:
Sheng Nanting (Raw Arisaema Rhizome).
Grind into powder, mix with warm water, and apply as a poultice.
Postpartum women should frequently express milk; otherwise, milk stasis may occur. Additionally, failure to nurse the infant postpartum, or loss of the infant/no infant available to nurse, can lead to Dulru (Jealous Breast/Mastitis). Treatment uses the following formula:
Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Xingren (Apricot Seed, skin and tip removed), Shegan (Belamcanda Rhizome), Fangji (Stephania Root), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root), Mangxiao (Mirabilite), Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) each 3 liang; Shaoyao (Peony Root), Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted) each 4 liang.
Decoct the above in 9 sheng of water until reduced to 3 sheng, and divide into doses. Externally use:
Huqi (Oak Bark).
Decoct in water to make a wash for the affected area, which is highly effective.
