Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Licorice Root), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) each 3 liang, Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix) each 2 liang.
Decoct with 3 sheng of water, remove the dregs, and take 1 sheng warm at a time, three times daily.
After severe vomiting and purging in Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome with sudden vomiting and diarrhea), the stomach and intestines are both deficient. If sweating occurs, the pulse is faint and nearly imperceptible, and the hands and feet are cold, this constitutes Sini Syndrome (Four-Chill Syndrome). Urgently use:
Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Licorice Root), Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) each 2 liang; Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus Cortex), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix) each 3 liang; Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) 8 liang.
Decoct together with 6 sheng of water and 6 sheng of wine to obtain 3 sheng of liquid, divided into four doses. Simultaneously, moxa-ignite the prominent bone above the medial malleolus of both feet, seven moxa cones per foot. If there is no improvement, increase the number of cones. This acupoint is named Sanyinjiao (Three Yin Intersection), located three cun above the tip of the medial malleolus.
The symptoms manifest as restlessness and inability to lie down comfortably after vomiting and purging due to Huoluan. Use:
Cong Bai (Scallion White Stem) 20 stalks, Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus) 20 pieces.
Decoct with 2.5 sheng of water to obtain 1 sheng of liquid, remove the dregs, and administer in one dose.
This condition arises because severe vomiting leads to disharmony of deficient qi in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner); when qi attacks the Heart, it causes irritability and oppression. Severe purging depletes body fluids; depletion of fluids leads to dryness of the Zang organs, which results in thirst. One may use:
Mu Gua (Chaenomeles Fructus) one piece.
Decoct with 4 sheng of water to obtain 2 sheng of liquid; drink immediately when thirsty. The roots and stems may also be used.
Generally, Huoluan involves frequent vomiting and purging. If one cannot vomit from above nor purge from below, accompanied by severe abdominal pain resembling death, it is called Gan Huoluan (Dry Cholera). It is suitable to use:
One spoonful of salt, roasted until yellow, mixed with one bowl of urine from an uncircumcised boy, taken warm. Recovery occurs once vomiting is achieved.
Ma Fen (Equi Feces) 1 liang (roasted until black).
Add a pinch of Yellow Earth (Huang Tu), lightly stir-fried, and take 5 qian with hot aged wine. Pain will vanish after one dose.
The patient is silent and unresponsive. First, immerse a porcelain spoon in hot water and sesame oil juice, then scrape the back from top to bottom. Start gently and increase pressure, stopping when sand-point rashes appear in clusters. Then use:
Wu Yao (Linderae Radix), Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus), Zi Pu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex).
These five herbs are used in equal parts and taken warm.
The patient suffers from abdominal distension and pain extending to the back or waist/hips, feeling like prickling thorns. One may use the soil from the bottom of a fired liquor jar, ground extremely fine, mixed with liquor to rub the painful area. Fine white hairs will adhere to it.
