The patient's lips are slightly swollen, moist, and ulcerated. They may feel cold or hot, with the condition alternating between remission and exacerbation. This chronic state persists for years and is difficult to cure; it is also known as "Chen Lip" (Deep Lip) or "Jian Lip" (Cocoon Lip).
Formula:
Shi Liuhuang (Sulfur), Baifan (Alum), Zhusha (Cinnabar), Shuiyin (Mercury), Muxiang (Musk), Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark) each 1 fen.
Grind all ingredients together in a porcelain mortar until the mercury is no longer visible. Mix with pig lard rendered in the twelfth lunar month to form a paste. Clean the affected area thoroughly before applying. Apply three to five times daily, or until healed. This method is highly effective.
If the patient's lips suddenly evert and swell into a mushroom-like shape, the condition is extremely critical. Immediately moxibustion should be applied to Shaoshang (LU-11) on both hands. Additionally, use the following prescription:
Earthworms (Qiu Yin) 10 pieces, Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit) 2 qian.
Grind into powder, add a small amount of ash flour, and mix with hot vinegar. Apply to the soles of both feet, wrap with cloth, and change every two to three hours (shi) until healed.
Sheng Puhuang (Raw Coptis Rhizome Powder? Note: Puhuang is Pollen Typhae) 2 qian, Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Longnao (Borneol) each 1 qian.
Grind into powder, mix with sesame oil, and apply externally. Extremely effective.
Longdan (Gentiana Root), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Huaibaipi (Pericarpium Stemonae? Note: Huai Bai Pi usually refers to Sophora root bark), Daqing (Isatidis Folium) each 2 liang, Ku Zhuye (Bitter Bamboo Leaves) 1 sheng, Baimi (White Honey) half sheng.
Add 5 sheng of water, decoct to obtain 1 sheng of liquid. Strain out the dregs, add honey, and simmer further. Apply to the affected area; discontinue when healed.
Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart), Gancao (Licorice Root), Xixin (Asarum), Jupi (Tangerine Peel) in equal proportions.
Grind and sieve the four herbs. Take 1 qianbi (a measure roughly equivalent to a coin-sized scoop) with wine. Discontinue when healed.
Suanzao (Ziziphus Seed, pitted) 1 sheng, Suan Shiliuzi (Acid Pomegranate Seeds) 5 he, Gange (Kudzu Root) 3 liang, Wumei (Mume Fruit, pitted) 5 he, Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber, heart removed) 4 liang, Fupenzi (Raspberry).
Grind the eight herbs. Form pills using honey, sized like jujube pits, maintaining a moist consistency.
Frequently scrape the tongue surface with Puhuang (Pollen Typhae); the swelling will naturally subside. Once swallowing is possible, drink a decoction of Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) to achieve a cure.
Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens), Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome) each 3 liang, Tianxiong (Aconitum Lateralis Radix Preparata), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) each 1 liang, Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper) 2 he, Mangcao (Polygonum Aristentaceum), Xixin (Asarum), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart) each 1 liang, Kuli Genpi (Bitter Plum Root Bark) 3 liang, Tunzhi (Pig Lard) 2 liang.
Soak all herbs in vinegar overnight. Then decoct with pig lard over low heat. Strain to make an ointment. Wrap a small amount in cotton wool and hold under the tongue.
Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Shengma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Zhizi Ren (Gardenia Seed), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Tongcao (Tetrapanax Pith) each 4 liang, Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Daqing (Isatidis Folium), Xingren (Apricot Seed, skin and tip removed), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) each 3 liang, Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) 8 liang.
Decoct in 1 dou of water until 3.5 sheng remains. Divide into four doses: take three times during the day and once at night.
