This syndrome arises from headache leading to the formation of nodules, or a sensation of thunderous ringing in the head. This is due to the invasion of pathogenic wind; when wind moves, it produces sound. For mild cases, treat with: *Qiaqiao* (Forsythiae Fructus), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Heishanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus prepared with charcoal), Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus) each 1 qian, Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) 0.7 qian, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 0.5 qian. Grind into powder and administer. For severe cases, treat with: Goudi (Cucumeritis Fructus) and good tea in equal parts. Grind together into powder, take 2 qian per dose, mixed with shepherd's purse juice (*Jizhi*), taken on an empty stomach to induce vomiting. Additionally, use: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) each 2 liang, Qianniu (Pharbitidis Semen), Huashi (Talcum) each 4 liang, Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) each 0.5 liang. Grind the above into powder, make pills with water, size of wu zi (walnut seeds). Take 50 pills after meals with warm water.
This syndrome results from the combination of dampness and heat, which steam and depress each other. The qi ascends and clashes with clear yang qi, causing pain. Treatment should employ: Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) each 1 liang, Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) 7 qian, Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 5 qian, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried) 1.5 liang, Qiaqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, stir-fried) 1 liang, Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, half stir-fried). Grind the above into powder, take 2 qian per dose, add a little tea, mix with decoction into a paste, apply inside the mouth, and swallow with a small amount of plain boiled water.
Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma). Grind the above into powder, take 1.5 qian per dose, mix with tea water and ingest.
This syndrome is caused by deficiency of qi and blood, allowing pathogenic wind to enter the brain and draw upon the eye tendons (*muxi*). The essence and qi of the zang-fu organs all ascend to the eyes. Qi and blood connect upwards to form the eye tendons, which attach to the brain posteriorly and emerge at the neck. When encountering bodily deficiency, they are injured by pathogenic wind. If wind enters the brain, the brain rotates, and the eye tendons become tense, resulting in vertigo. Treatment uses: Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) each 1 liang, Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) each 3 liang. Add one dou of water, boil to obtain three sheng, divide into three doses.
The patient feels as if insects are burrowing in the head; this condition is named Tianbaiyi (Heavenly White Ants). Treatment uses: Sangye (Mori Folium), Hei Zhima (Sesami Fructus Nigrum), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus). Grind equal parts into powder, mix with honey to make pills, size of wu zi (walnut seeds). Take 20 pills with decoction of aged fine tea. If ineffective, gradually increase to 40 pills.
