Treats women with infertility, or irregular and intermittent menstruation, as well as deficiency-heat in the upper jiao (Upper Burner), coldness and fatigue in the lower body, reduced appetite, yellowish and emaciated limbs. For all kinds of heart and abdominal diseases, the Bureau of Medical Supply Formula names this "Xiao Baiwei Wan" (Small White Anemarrhena Pill). It treats deficiency and damage to the Chong and Ren vessels (Conception and Thrusting Vessels) in women, cold invasion of the Zang Zang (Uterus), long-term infertility, as well as intermittent menstruation or inability to bear children. This is due to heat above and cold below, giving rise to myriad diseases; or menorrhagia (profuse bleeding), leukorrhea with five colors, heavy pain in the waist and abdomen, sallow complexion and thin flesh; or improper care after childbirth and lactation, early resumption of toilet duties or labor, sitting for long periods on damp ground, cold wind entering from below. Since the Blood Repository (Liver/Blood Sea) is deficient, wind pathogens invade internally; or when menstruation should occur, lack of regulation and care damages the Bao Luo (Uterine Collaterals), causing Yin and Yang disharmony. Deficient Yang stagnates and dries in the upper jiao, while evil cold knots and lies dormant in the lower jiao, resulting in failure of menstruation and conception. Extreme cold damages and ruins the constitution, leading to irregular menstruation, reduced diet, night sweats, facial [blemishes], loose teeth and hair loss, painful and heavy feet and knees, weakness in movement. All these are suitable for taking this pill.
Baiwei (Radix Cynanchi Atrati), Gan Shu Di Huang (Prepared Rhizoma Rehmanniae), Chuan Jiao (Fructus Zanthoxyli, remove eyes, slightly stir-fry to remove oil/sweat), Bai Long Gu (Os Draconis et Ossis Mastodi, each 1 liang), Che Qian Zi (Semen Plantaginis), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, chopped, stir-fried), Xiong Duan (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Pu Huang (Pollen Typhae), Bai Fu Ling (Poria), Yuan Zhi (Radix Polygalae, remove heart), Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng), Tao Ren (Semen Persicae, remove skin and tips, stir-fry with bran until yellow), Juan Bai (Herba Serpylli, each 3 qian), Mai Men Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis, 1.5 liang, remove heart, bake).
The above twenty-one ingredients are pounded together into a fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take thirty pills with warm wine on an empty stomach in the morning and before evening meals. (The Bureau of Medical Supply Formula states: Regular use strengthens sinews and bones, benefits Qi and blood, warms the lower Zang Zang (Uterus), dispels wind-cold, and enables conception.)
Treats women with irregular menstruation, sallow and emaciated muscles, accumulation of Qi and hard masses under the hypochondrium, occasional stabbing pain, gradually developing into a consumptive state.
Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, remove skirt edge, roast with vinegar until yellow), Guan Gui (Cortex Cinnamomi, remove bark), Jing San Leng (Rhizoma Sparganii, quench with vinegar, stir-fry urgently), Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, baked), Tao Ren (Semen Persicae, stir-fry with bran, remove skin and tips).
The above ten ingredients (Note: Text lists five, but counts ten) are ground together into a fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take fifteen pills decocted with Tao Ren (Persicae Semen) soup. It is especially excellent for breaking up blood stasis, mass formations, and Qi blocks.
