The eyes are the essence of the five zang organs and six fu organs, the gathering place of the master vessels, and the external manifestation of the Liver. The deficiency or excess of the zang-fu organs, along with pathogenic factors such as Wind, Phlegm, and Heat, can invade; when Wind transmits to the Liver and rushes upward to the eyes, various eye diseases arise. If Qi and Blood are abundant, vision is clear; if Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) are deficient and damaged, vision is often dim; exposure to Cold causes tearing, while Labor-Heat causes redness and dryness/astringency. If not cured for a long time, it often develops into a major disease. The Zang organ governs Blood, and the Foot Jueyin (Liver Meridian) is its channel.
