Treats cold limbs (Jue Ni) caused by Shanghan (Cold Damage).
Taiyin Yuanjing Shi (Lapis Specularis, 1 liang), Liuhuang (Sulfur, 1 liang), Xiaoshi (Niter, 1 liang, each ground into powder), Nifen (Calomel, 0.5 liang).
The above four ingredients are successively spread in a dry ironing pan, covered with paper, and slowly roasted over low heat for a long time. When yellow shoots appear on the medicine, stop heating immediately. Pour the medicine into a mortar, hold your breath, and grind finely five to seven hundred times. Use steamed dough as a binder to make pills the size of soap beans. For patients with Shanghan presenting with faint and thin pulses and cold, inverted limbs, or those who have previously experienced diarrhea, decoct mugwort water (Ai Ye Tang) to approximately one cup. First, drink half of the warm mugwort water, then chew one pill thoroughly and swallow it with the remaining liquid. Sweating will occur shortly thereafter, indicating recovery. For severe cases, two pills will ensure a cure; this is miraculous.
Referencing the *Shengji Zonglu* formula for resolving Shanghan: Treats Yin syndrome of Shanghan, with deep and thin pulses.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, de-stemmed), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, pith removed and stir-fried), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, raw), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, stir-fried), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, processed), Zhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Guanzi Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, outer bark removed), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, raw), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed, skin and bud removed), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, washed seven times in hot water).
Among these ten ingredients, only Mahuang is used in double the quantity of the others, while the remaining nine are halved. Pound them together into a fine powder. Take one large qian per dose. Add one cup of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until reduced to seventy percent volume, and take warm. If sweating occurs, wait until the sweat dries before removing covers. Whenever one first feels the onset of Shanghan, accompanied by pain in the limbs, head, eyes, bones, and joints, take this medicine. After walking for about five li, take another dose, or take three consecutive doses. Sweating will occur immediately, leading to recovery. If suffering from Yin Du Shanghan (Yin Toxin Cold Damage), add half a qian of Tuiyin San and decoct together. It is also effective for conditions caused by cold injury or food stagnation, such as dizziness, qi distension, and various heart and abdominal disorders.
Chuan Wutou (Aconiti Radix, processed), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 0.5 liang each).
Grind the above two ingredients into a coarse powder, stir-fry until the color changes, allow to cool, and then grind into a fine powder. Take one qian per dose. Add one cup of water and a pinch of salt. Decoct until reduced to half a cup, strain, and take warm. This medicine primarily treats Yin Du Shanghan, characterized by cold limbs, deep and thin pulses, headache, and heavy sensation in the waist. Take three consecutive doses. For mild cold injuries, take one spoonful per dose, mixed with Zhengyuan San and a pinch of salt. For coughing and rebellious qi caused by Yin Du Shanghan, decoct one dose and sip it slowly while hot; symptoms will cease immediately.
