When wind pathogen invades the meridians, it causes deviation of the mouth and eyes. When it invades the fu organs (hollow organs), it leads to limb dysfunction. When it invades the zang organs (solid organs), it endangers life. In treating wind diseases, no method is superior to formulas such as Xuming Tang (Continuing Life Decoction). However, these methods can only support the disease condition; to achieve a complete cure, moxibustion with mugwort (Ai Ye) is the best option. The specific acupoints are listed below:
Conghui (Ex-HN 17): Two points, located in the slight depression anterior to the ear, found by opening the mouth; the arterial pulse is palpable.
Jiache (ST 6): Two points, located in the depression approximately two leek-leaf widths below the ear, found by opening the mouth.
Dicang (ST 4): Two points, located four fen lateral to the corner of the mouth; the point where a faint pulse moves nearby is identified.
If the mouth and eyes deviate to the right, it indicates wind-stroke affecting the left meridian causing flaccidity; moxibustion should be applied to the depression on the left side for fourteen moxa cones (two times seven).
If the mouth and eyes deviate to the left, it indicates wind-stroke affecting the right meridian causing flaccidity; moxibustion should be applied to the depression on the right side for fourteen moxa cones (two times seven). The moxa cone should be the size of a wheat grain, applied frequently until the wind pathogen is fully expelled, stopping when the mouth and eyes return to normal alignment.
Baihui (DU 20): One point, located in the depression at the center of the vertex within the hair whorl, approximately the size of a bean.
Faji (Extra Point): Two points, located at the hairline anterior to both ears.
Jian (Extra Point): Two points, located in the depression between the two bones at the shoulder tip, taken with the arm raised.
Quchi (LI 11): Two points, located in the depression at the head of the transverse crease, midway between the lateral epicondyle of the humerus and the radial head when the elbow is flexed; taken with hands clasped against the chest.
Fengshi (GB 31): Two points, located in the depression between the two tendons on the lateral aspect of the knee, found when standing upright with the hand relaxed and touching the thigh, at the tip of the middle finger.
Zusanli (ST 36): Two points, located three cun below the knee, between the two tendons on the lateral side of the tibia.
Jiegu (GB 39), also known as Xuanguzhong (GB 39): Two points, located three cun above the lateral malleolus, in the depression of the arterial pulse.
Whenever one feels numbness or pain in the limbs that persists for a long time before subsiding, this is a precursor to stroke affecting the fu organs. Moxibustion should be applied to these seven acupoints. If the pathology is on the left, moxa is applied to the right; if on the right, to the left. If treatment is delayed and the limbs have already recovered, but the precursor appears in autumn, moxibustion should be performed in spring; if it appears in spring, it should be performed in autumn, aiming to expel all wind pathogen until a feeling of lightness and comfort is achieved.
Baihui (DU 20): One point, as described above.
Dazhui (DU 14): One point, located in the depression above the first cervical vertebra at the back of the neck.
Fengchi (GB 20): Two points, located in the depression posterior to the temporal region at the hairline.
Jiangjing (GB 21): Two points, located in the depression of the muscle separation on the shoulder, one and a half cun anterior to the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen); identified by pressing with three fingers, where the middle finger sinks into the depression.
Quchi (LI 11): Two points, as described above.
Zusanli (ST 36): Two points, as described above.
Jianshi (PC 5): Two points, located in the depression between the two tendons three cun proximal to the wrist crease.
Whenever one feels mental confusion, lack of joy, or numbness in the limbs, this is a sign of stroke affecting the zang organs. Regardless of whether it is due to wind or qi stagnation, these seven acupoints should be moxibusted consecutively. Follow the sequence starting from the most urgent symptoms. Each point may be moxibusted for five to seven cones, with additional sessions later until reaching the number corresponding to the patient's age (Suinian Zhuang). During spring and autumn, these seven points can be moxibusted regularly to vent wind pathogen. Individuals with a history of wind disorders must pay special attention to this moxibustion method to ensure safety. This method can also treat sudden death. Medical classics state: When wind pathogen strikes, if one endures the pain out of fear and refuses moxibustion, sudden death may occur suddenly. What disease is this? It is said to be wind entering the zang organs. Patients must not ignore this. I myself experienced deviation of the mouth and eyes in May; after moxibusting Baihui and three other points, it stopped immediately. My right hand and foot became numb and weak; after moxibusting Baihui and the seventh point at Faji, I recovered. In July, my qi became blocked, saliva rose preventing speech, and my soul felt scattered as if falling into a lake, on the verge of death moments later. After moxibusting Baihui, Fengchi, and Jiache on both sides, my qi flow resumed, I vomited half a bowl of saliva, and had more than ten bowel movements. After lying in bed for half a month, I fully recovered. Since then, whenever I feel even slight abnormalities in my mental state, I moxibust Baihui, Fengchi, and other points, achieving immediate effect every time.
