[Du Sheng San / Sole Holy Powder] Treats various wind pathogens causing excess in the diaphragm. It treats phlegm and saliva accumulation in various epilepsy cases. It is also applicable to miscellaneous diseases.
Gua Di (Seeds of Momordica Charantia) (Quantity not restricted).
Take the above single herb. Crush it to the size of hemp seeds. Stir-fry until yellow, then grind into powder. Based on the patient's duration of illness, constitution (deficiency or excess), and body size, measure one qian or two qians of the powder. Mix with one qian of tea powder and one cup of sour vinegar juice. Administer orally. The patient must fast overnight. Take the medicine at night to induce vomiting. Follow up with warm vinegar water. ○ If inducing vomiting for wind-epilepsy, add half a qian of stir-fried Quan Xie (Scorpio). ○ If treating dampness-induced edema, add one qian of Chi Xiao Dou (Vigna umbellata) powder. ○ If inducing vomiting for parasites, add five to seven drops of Gou You (Dog Oil) and one qian of Xiong Huang (Realgar) powder. For severe cases, add half a qian of Yuan Hua (Genkwa Flos) powder. This will immediately expel the parasites. ○ Vomiting therapy must be performed on clear, sunny days; do not use during cloudy or gloomy weather. However, if the disease is acute and violent, this rule does not apply. The best time for vomiting is between Chen hour (07:00-09:00) and Si hour (09:00-11:00) before noon. The *Neijing* states: From dawn to midday is the yang energy of heaven, specifically the yang within yang.
Regarding the qi of the four seasons, therefore, Zhang Zhongjing's general principle is that spring is suitable for vomiting therapy. Because heavenly qi is above, human qi is also above. In terms of daily qi, this corresponds to Yin, Mao, and Chen hours. Therefore, early administration is preferred over late. This medicine should not be used frequently. The key is to differentiate deficiency and excess. For excess patterns, use Gua Di San; for deficiency patterns, use Zhi Zi Chi Tang. Add Hou Po (Magnolia Bark) for abdominal fullness. Do not use indiscriminately. After vomiting, one may administer formulas that descend fire, promote qi circulation, calm the spirit, and stabilize the mind. This formula originates from *Qi Yi Bao Ming Ji*.
