Acute convulsion (Ji Jing) belongs to Yang syndromes. Children present with coughing, where phlegm-heat accumulates in the chest and diaphragm, indicating pathology affecting the Shaoyang meridians and various fu organs. It is said that "extreme heat generates wind," which may also be triggered by sudden fright. The Zhen trigram corresponds to the East; when it receives fire energy, spasms occur. Fire is inherently still, but flames move only with the wind. Treatment should involve using Li Jing Wan (Detoxifying Convulsion Pill) combined with Dao Chi San (Guide Out the Red Powder), Xie Qing Wan (Drain Green Pill), and Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Pill). Once spasms cease, An Shen Wan (Calm Spirit Pill) should be administered.
Chronic convulsion (Man Jing) belongs to Yin syndromes. Due to prolonged vomiting and diarrhea, children suffer from spleen and stomach deficiency and damage, resulting in dysentery. At this stage, wind within the spleen and stomach must be dispelled. First, use Xuan Feng San (Disperse Wind Powder) to guide and drain, followed by Shi Jun Zi Wan (Quassia Pill) and Yi Huang San (Strengthen Spleen Powder). The dysentery will then stop. If not treated early, it will develop into chronic convulsion. "Yi" refers to symptoms resembling spasms but less severe, caused by spleen and stomach deficiency allowing Liver Wood to overact upon Earth, indicating pathology involving multiple zang organs. The primary treatment is Wen Bu Qiang Huo Gao (Warming and Tonifying Notopterygium Ointment).
