[Xuanfeng San] (Prescription from Qian Yi, using two Areca Seeds)
Gancao (Zhi), Jupi (each 0.5 liang), Qianniu (4 liang, half raw and half stir-fried), Binglang (2 qian).
Grind the above into a fine powder. For children aged two or three, administer half a qian per dose, mixed with honey water. For older children, administer one qian per dose, taken before meals. (Since slow convulsion is attributed to prolonged vomiting and diarrhea leading to deficiency and damage of the Spleen and Stomach, reusing harsh purgatives like Qianniu seems inappropriate.)
[Shijunzi Wan] Treats five types of infantile malnutrition (Gan syndrome) in children. Disharmony of the Spleen and Stomach, fullness and distension of the heart and abdomen, intermittent pain, and loss of appetite.
Shijunzi (1 liang), Houpo (peeled and processed), Chenpi (pith removed), Chuanxiong (each 1 qian).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of soap pods. For children over three years old, one pill per dose; for younger children, half a pill. Dissolve and take with aged rice decoction. This formula effectively treats abdominal pain in children.
[Qianghuo Gao] Treats deficiency of the Spleen and Stomach, excessive heat in Liver Qi generating wind, or slow convulsions resulting from excessive massage/manipulation or following vomiting and diarrhea. It is universally effective. (Qian Yi's original prescription contains Fangfeng but lacks Gegen.)
Tianma (1 liang), Renshen, Qianghuo (rhizome removed), Chuanxiong, Chi Fuling (peel removed), Baifuzi (processed, each 0.5 liang), Chenxiang, Muxiang, Mudingxiang, Huoxiang, Roudoukou (each 3 qian), Mahuang (nodes removed), Gegen (another version has Fangfeng, no Gegen), Chuan Fuzi (processed, peel and umbilicus removed, each 2 qian), Zhenzhu Mo, Shexiang (ground), Niuhuang (ground, each 1.5 qian), Xionghuang (ground), Chensha (ground, each 2 fen), Ganxie (stir-fried to remove toxicity), Baijiangcan (stir-fried to remove silk), Baihuashe (soaked in wine and baked, each 1 fen), Qingfen (one zi amount, ground), Longnao (half zi amount, ground).
Grind all together into a fine powder. Mix with the ground ingredients evenly. Blend with refined honey to form a paste. Shape into pills the size of soybeans. Administer one or two pills per dose after meals, dissolved in mint decoction. Mai Dong decoction is also acceptable. Do not use for excess-heat acute convulsions due to its warm nature.
[Gouteng Yinzi] Treats vomiting and diarrhea, weak Qi of the Spleen and Stomach, and slow convulsions caused by deficient wind. (From Qian Yi's prescription)
Renshen, Chanqiao, Xiwei (toxic parts removed and stir-fried), Mahuang (nodes removed), Fangfeng (rhizome removed), Baijiangcan (stir-fried), Tianma (each 0.5 liang), Shexiang (1 qian, ground), Gouteng (3 fen), Gancao (Zhi), Chuanxiong (each 1 fen).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose with one cup of water, decoct until reduced to 60%, and take warm. Adjust dosage according to age and size. If cold symptoms predominate, add 0.5 qian of Fuzi powder. Take at any time.
[Yigong San] Warms the middle and harmonizes Qi. Treats vomiting, diarrhea, and anorexia. When treating pediatric deficiency-cold conditions, administer several doses first to rectify the Qi. (From Qian Yi's Pediatric Formulas)
Renshen (rhizome removed), Fuling (peel removed), Baizhu, Gancao (Zhi), Chenpi (equal parts).
Grind into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose with one cup of water, two slices of fresh ginger, and two jujubes. Decoct until reduced to 70%. Take warm before meals. Adjust quantity as needed. For adults and children suffering from trismus (lockjaw) where other medications fail, this formula combined with 1 qian of raw Tiannanxing powder and a small amount of Borneol, ground together evenly, applied to the upper gum roots on both sides with a finger dipped in fresh ginger juice, will immediately open the jaw with miraculous effect.
