In the Bingwu year, I resided in Zhending. Many people suffered from ding sores (malignant skin ulcers). The County Magistrate, Mr. Dong, said to me, "This year, there are extremely many cases of ding sores. Poor people lack the resources for treatment. Recently, I obtained several prescriptions from Marquis Shi, and they have all been effective. The government provides funds for medicines; you should treat them freely." I agreed to his request. Magistrate Dong posted notices on main roads, stating that anyone suffering from ding sores could come to Luo Qianfu's residence in the city to obtain medicine. For over a year, many lives were saved. The prescriptions used included: Baosheng Tingzi (Life-Preserving Stick), Qianjin Tuoli San (Thousand-Gold Interior-Supporting Powder), Shensheng Gaoyao (Divine Holy Ointment), and Po Guan Dan (Coffin-Breaking Pill), totaling four formulas. In the Wuyin year of the Zhiyuan era, Magistrate Dong was appointed as Left Vice Director of the Secretariat and concurrently held the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Bureau of Military Affairs.
[Baosheng Tingzi] Treats ding sores, carbuncles on the back, scrofula, and all kinds of malignant sores.
Jinjiaoxin (Aconite root processed with specific method), Xionghuang (Realgar), Zhusha (Cinnabar) (each 2 qian), Shexiang (Musk) (1 qian), Qingfen (Calomel) (half a large box, weighing 2 qian), Badou (Croton seed) (49 grains, stir-fried with mild and strong heat then ground).
Grind the above ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Melt 5 qian of yellow beeswax, mix with the medicinal powder to form sticks. Soak in cold water for a short time, remove, then shape into pills or cakes the size of a coin hole. Gently open the sore head, place one cake inside, then apply Shensheng Gaoyao externally, followed by internal administration of Tuoli San. If the pathogenic qi of the sore enters the abdomen and the condition is critical, administer Po Guan Dan.
[Shensheng Gaoyao] Treats all kinds of malignant sores.
Danggui (Angelica sinensis), Gaoben (Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort.) (each half liang), Moyao (Myrrh) (2 qian), Huangdan (Lead tetroxide), Huangla (Yellow beeswax) (each 2 liang), Ruxiang (Frankincense) (2 qian), Hupo (Amber) (2.5 qian), Baiji (Bletilla striata) (2.5 qian), Danfan (Alum), Fenshuang (White lead oxide) (each 1 qian), Baijiaoxiang (Pine rosin) (3 liang), Qingyou (Pure sesame oil) (1 jin), Muguaizi (Momordica cochinchinensis seed) (50 pieces, peeled), Badou (Croton seed) (15 pieces, peeled), Huaizhi (Branches of Sophora japonica), Liuzhi (Branches of Salix babylonica) (each 120 strips).
Place all ingredients together. First, boil the Huai branches and Liu branches in the oil until scorched, then remove and discard. Add the remaining herbs and boil until scorched, then remove and discard. Clarify the oil, add Huangdan, and continue boiling to form the ointment. Spread onto red silk fabric. It produces miraculous effects immediately.
[Qianjin Tuoli San] Treats ding sores, carbuncles on the back, and all kinds of malignant swellings.
Guangui (Cinnamon twig), Renshen (Ginseng root), Gancao (Licorice root), Chuanxiong (Szechwan lovage rhizome), Xiangbaizhi (Angelica dahurica), Shaoyao (Peony root) (each 1 liang), Muxiang (Aucklandia root), Moyao (Myrrh) (each 3 qian), Ruxiang (Frankincense) (2 qian), Danggui (Angelica sinensis) (half liang), Lianqiao (Forsythia fruit) (1.2 liang), Huangqi (Astragalus root) (1.5 liang), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia root), Jiegeng (Platycodon root), Houpo (Magnolia bark) (each 2 liang).
Grind the fifteen ingredients into a fine powder. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with one large cup of wine for two or three boils, and take warm with the dregs. No fixed time.
[Po Guan Dan] Treats sores and swellings due to wind-heat.
Dahuang (Rhubarb root) (2 liang, half raw half cooked), Mangxiao (Mirabilite), Gancao (Licorice root) (each 1 liang).
Grind into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of bullet seeds. Take half a pill per dose after meals, dissolved in clear tea or warm wine. Alternatively, dissolve in half a cup of child's urine. Avoid cold water.
[Erxian San] Treats ding swellings and malignant sores. Transmitted by Li Guanguan of the Imperial Medical Bureau.
Baifan (Alum), Huangdan (Lead tetroxide) (equal parts; one formula adds a small amount of Xionghuang for faster effect).
Grind each ingredient separately. When needed, take a small amount of each and mix evenly. Prick the sore with a triangular needle until blood appears. Once bleeding stops, apply the powder and cover with ointment. Change no more than three times, and it will surely heal. Chan Master Liu of Cishunli, Quyang County, was skilled in treating sores and scrofula with even faster results. In early spring of the Renzi year, the imperial decree arrived at Liupanshan. He stayed in Guahudu for winter, accompanying us day and night, and transmitted four formulas: Taiyi Gao, Yuzhuo San, Kexiao San, and Cuiyu Gao, all of which produced miraculous effects. In mid-autumn of the Jiayin year, when the royal army returned, an envoy was sent to escort the Chan Master back to his hometown, and the temple gate plaque was bestowed with the name "Ciji Zen Temple".
[Taiyi Gao] Treats scrofula sores, miraculous effect.
Naozi (Borneol) (1 qian, ground), Qingfen (Calomel), Ruxiang (Frankincense) (each 2 qian, ground), Shexiang (Musk) (3 qian, ground), Moyao (Myrrh) (4 qian, ground), Huangdan (Lead tetroxide) (5 liang).
Use one jin of pure sesame oil. First boil Huangdan, stirring with a willow branch. Use seven stalks of Han'er Cong (scallion); add one stalk at a time until scorched, continuing until all are used. Remove from fire and stir continuously, adjusting temperature appropriately. Add Borneol and other medicines, stir well, and store in porcelain vessels. Apply fresh as needed.
[Kexiao San] Treats scrofula sores.
Guangui (Cinnamon twig), Zhusha (Cinnabar) (each half qian), Chixiaodou (Adzuki bean) (49 grains), Jingmi (Glutinous rice) (49 grains), Banmao (Mylabris beetle) (49 pieces, wings and legs not removed).
Grind the five ingredients into powder. Initial dose: one character weight (approx. 0.5-1g). Subsequent doses increase gradually to four characters. Decoct roots of Zhangliu (Chloranthus spicatus) and take orally on an empty stomach. Effectiveness is indicated by dripping urination. Nausea or vomiting of yellow fluid does not hinder the cure for scrofula; it will resolve daily.
[Yuzhuo San] Treats scrofula. Harmonizes blood and unblocks meridians; self-resolves upon ingestion. One dose daily, effective within 7-8 days.
Danggui (Angelica sinensis), Shaoyao (Peony root), Chuanxiong (Szechwan lovage rhizome), Gancao (Licorice root), Mangxiao (Mirabilite), Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia root), Dahuang (Rhubarb root), Huangqin (Scutellaria root) (equal parts).
Grind into coarse powder. Take 3 qian per dose with one cup of water and three slices of ginger, decoct to 70%, strain, and take warm.
[Cuiyu Gao] Treats scrofula sores.
Qingli (Bitumen), Huangla (Yellow beeswax), Tonglv (Malachite) (each 2 qian), Moyao (Myrrh), Ruxiang (Frankincense) (each 1 qian).
First grind Tonglv into powder and mix with oil. Melt Huangla and Qingli over fire, add the oil mixture, and stir evenly. Gradually add Moyao and stir. Pour into a bowl of river water, knead by hand until uniform. Wrap in oil paper, divide into sizes matching the sore, chew into cakes, and apply to the sore. Seal with paper and change every three days.
[Huanglian Xiaodu Tang] Treats conditions caused by rich diet, such as carbuncles on the back or brain. Effective if applied at the initial stage. (Yuan Yiyou found this prescription highly effective.)
