阳穴宜重分,阴穴宜轻分,无论何法,均须用此。但寒证宜多分阳,热证宜多分阴,又不可
不讲也。

Figure: Dividing Yin and Yang
Method for treating alternating chills and fever. With the infant's palm facing upward, the physician supports it with both hands. The two thumbs are placed at the center behind the palm and pushed outward to divide the Yin and Yang acupoints.
The Yang point should be pushed heavily, while the Yin point should be pushed lightly. Regardless of the specific technique employed, this method must always be used. However, for cold syndromes, more emphasis should be placed on pushing the Yang points; for heat syndromes, more emphasis should be placed on pushing the Yin points. This distinction must not be overlooked.
Figure: Fetching Water from the Heavenly River
This method primarily provides a strong cooling effect and is used for heat syndromes. With the infant's palm facing upward, dip fingers in cold water and push from the Tianheshui (Water of the Heavenly River) acupoint to the Neilaogong (Inner Laogong) acupoint. If cold water is used to push from the transverse crease to the Quchi (Pool at the Crook) acupoint, it is called "Pushing Tianhesui." If cold water is used to push straight from Neilaogong to Quchi, it is called "Great Pushing of Tianhesui."
Figure: Green Dragon Wags Its Tail
This method can reduce fever and open the chest. The physician holds the infant's left index, middle, and ring fingers with the right hand. Using the left hand, rub and massage from Zongjing (General Meridian) to Tianhesui and Douzhou (Battle Elbow), applying slightly heavier pressure. Then, rub and massage from Douzhou back to Zongjing. One up-and-down cycle constitutes one repetition; perform three to four cycles. Next, pinch the infant's Douzhou with the thumb, index, and middle fingers of the left hand. The right hand maintains the previous holding grip and shakes the fingers nine times.
Figure: Pushing the Three Gates
This method primarily provides warming effects and is used for cold syndromes. With the infant's palm facing upward, dip fingers in ginger-scallion soup and push from Yangchi (Yang Pool) to above Quchi. Perform three to five hundred repetitions, adjusting according to the infant's deficiency or excess condition.
Another method: Dip fingers in ginger-scallion soup and push straight from the center of the major transverse crease to Quchi. This is a warming method. Advocated by Xia Yuzhu.
Figure: Retreating the Six Limbs
This method primarily provides cooling effects and is used for heat syndromes. With the infant's palm facing upward, dip fingers in boiling water and push from Yinchi (Yin Pool) to below Quchi. Perform three to five hundred repetitions, adjusting according to the infant's deficiency or excess condition.
Another method: Dip fingers in boiling water and push straight from the center of Yiwofeng (A Pit of Wind) on the back of the hand to Douzhou. This is a cooling method. Advocated by Xia Yuzhu.
