Harmony between Yin and Yang is the foundation; diseases arise from either excess or deficiency. "Ji" (Urgency/Tightness) refers to contraction without relaxation; "Chi" (Laxity/Relaxation) refers to looseness without retraction. Contraction belongs to Yang, while laxity belongs to Yin. Failure to relax or retract constitutes pathology. The Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian (Note: Original text says "Hand-Sunyang Lung", corrected to Hand-Taiyin based on TCM theory as Lung belongs to Taiyin), characterized by Pungent flavor and Metal element, governs the skin and hair of the whole body. The outer aspects of the upper and lower eyelashes also belong to it. The Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian corresponds to Ding; the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian corresponds to Bing. Bing and Ding belong to Fire, thus they are exterior-interior pairs, dividing the upper and lower regions. The inner aspects of the upper and lower eyelashes also belong to them. The Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian corresponds to Yi, which belongs to Wood. Its meridian courses along the inner aspect of the eyelids. Since Wood generates Fire, and Fire is the child of Wood, the Liver harmonizes with the Heart. When pathogenic factors invade the Heart, Liver, and Small Intestine meridians, Yang-Fire becomes excessive internally. Consequently, the inner aspects of the upper and lower eyelashes contract and fail to relax. Lung-Metal is controlled by Fire; when controlled, the affected organ weakens. Weakness allows Yin-Qi to move outward, causing the outer aspects of the upper and lower eyelashes to become lax and fail to retract. With the inner eyelids tight and the outer eyelids lax, all eyelashes turn inward and prick the interior of the eyeball. Once the eyeball is pricked, deep redness and the formation of nebulae (corneal opacities) occur. This nebula represents damage to the eye. Thus, various ocular diseases manifest. Symptoms such as photophobia, gritty sensation, aversion to wind and sunlight, ulceration, pain or itching, discharge of pus, and tearing may all appear. Applying medicinal clamps to the outer side of the upper eyelid, attempting to make lax parts tight and tight parts loose, is not the correct treatment for patients whose eyelashes do not invert. Such methods only provide temporary relief but ultimately fail to cure the disease. Why? Because one fails to examine whether the cause is excess or deficiency, and fails to eliminate the root cause. Treatment method: Evert the inner eyelid outward and rapidly puncture with a three-edged needle to induce bleeding. Use the thumbnail of the left thumb to guide the needle tip to prevent depth injury. Subsequently, treat primarily with Huangqin Fangfeng Yin (Scutellaria and Saposhnikovia Decoction), Bimi Manjingzi Tang (Peerless Vitex Decoction), Jueming Yiyin Wan (Clear Vision Nourishing Yin Pill), Juhua Jueming San (Chrysanthemum Clear Vision Powder), and Biyun San (Blue Cloud Powder) can be used concurrently. In this way, tightness will naturally relax, and laxity will gradually tighten. Whether due to excess or deficiency, harmony will be restored. One should endure and avoid using medicinal clamps, as they only cause unnecessary suffering. Wise individuals should reflect carefully on this.
