Shen (36 years old): In spring, yang qi ascends but is constrained by cold pathogenic factors, leading to swelling of the cheeks (mumps), accompanied by aversion to cold, fever, foul breath, and deafness. Externally, acrid dispersal should be used; internally, latent fire should be cleared.
Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Xisuheng (Perillae Caulis), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), Chanyi (Bombyx Batryticatus).
Sun (50 years old): Sudden dizziness, sweating with confusion, deafness, numbness of the tongue, and shortness of breath. This is caused by deficiency of liver and kidney, with wind-fire surging upward and phlegm accumulating due to qi stagnation. Among all things, none are as rapid as wind and fire. This is an endogenous disease, not caused by external pathogens. Fangfeng and Bohe can only dispel externally constrained pathogens; this condition must follow Danxi’s principle of harmonizing yin and extinguishing wind, combined with clearing phlegm and qi.
Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Sangye (Mori Folium), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos), Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Juapi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Jiangzhi (Zingiberis Recens Juice), Zhuli (Bambusae Sap).
One dose showed efficacy.
Dai (32 years old): Has a history of headache, occurring between Yin and Mao hours (3-7 AM), easing at Wu hour (11 AM-1 PM). This is Shaoyang disease (disease of the Gallbladder and Small Intestine channels).
Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), Sangpi (Mori Cortex), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Ganju (Chrysanthemi Indici Flos), Gouteng (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Sun (22 years old): Toothache due to fire constraint in the Yangming channel.

Cao (59 years old): During severe cold, the storing function is insecure, causing tinnitus and distension in both ears. The pulse is large and solid. Treatment should employ shell-type herbs to subdue yang.
Guiban (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 3 qian), Muli (Ostreae Concha, 2 qian), Gonggan (Ginseng Radix, 2 qian), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus, 2 qian), Yurou (Corni Fructus, 1.5 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 1 qian), Chuanbai (Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex, 1 qian), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex, 4 fen).
Shen (37 years old): Fire from liver and kidney surges upward to the clear orifices, causing left ear pain and distension.

Two doses resulted in discharge of pus and recovery.
Zhu (14 years old): Floating pulse, aversion to wind, fever, sore throat. Lung pathogen desires to vent, likely to manifest as rash.
Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 3 qian), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 1.5 qian), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, 1.5 qian), Nianzi (Plantaginis Semen, 2 qian), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum, 1 qian), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 qian), Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 1.5 qian), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 1.5 qian), Chanyi (Bombyx Batryticatus, 0.7 fen), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.4 fen), Xihe Liu (Salicis Tashiroanae Ramulus, 2 qian).
One dose caused skin itching and appearance of spots; two doses led to recovery. The father presented potted plum blossoms, and the author wrote a seven-character quatrain in thanks: "Cherish the short plum before the hall, watching buds open fully. When others ask where I got it, I say the mountain elder planted apricot."
A certain person: Wind-cold invading the lung, causing sore throat and swelling. Acrid dispersal is indicated.
Suye (Perillae Folium), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Nianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chanyi (Bombyx Batryticatus), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Jiangpi (Zingiberis Pericarpium), Congtou (Allii Cepae Bulbus).
After recovery for over ten days, the throat became painful again, starting at night, suddenly feeling like a fishbone stuck, with blisters forming on the left side like a cocoon. This is yin fire surging upward, requiring clearing and resolving. Previously, there was aversion to cold and floating pulse; now, no aversion to cold and fine pulse. Thus, warm and clearing methods are distinguished. Ignorant physicians fail to observe this, mixing prescriptions, causing significant delay.
Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Mabo (Acaciae Flos), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Zi (37 years old): Sore throat starts at dusk/night, with excessive saliva/phlegm. This belongs to incomplete winter storage, with floating fire rising. Treatment requires bitter flavors to subdue yang, acrid-bitter to disperse fire, and sweet to harmonize. One dose cured it.
Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, 2 qian, clears yin fire), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 1.5 qian, clears floating fire), Chuanhu (Dendrobii Caulis, 3 qian, clears stomach fire and reduces phlegm), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 3 qian, acrid disperses, bitter descends), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum, 0.5 fen, acrid benefits upper jiao qi), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 qian, opens lung qi and disperses constrained fire), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 1 qian, clears and benefits throat), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.3 fen, sweet harmonizes).
Tao (24 years old): Latent heat inside, coinciding with Winter Solstice, internal movement of yang qi, mutually influencing to cause illness. Dry and painful throat, entangled phlegm, thirst for cold water, cough with blood-streaked sputum, alternating chills and fever at dusk, white tongue coating like chalk, fine and rapid pulse. This is excess fire syndrome, treatable only with major cold agents. Do not fear using cold agents in winter; abandoning season for symptoms has precedent among ancient sages.
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 8 qian), Chuanlian (Coptidis Rhizoma, 1 qian), Danpi (Moutan Cortex, 1.5 qian), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, 0.3 qian), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Tuber, 2 qian), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 3 qian), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, 1.5 qian), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Rubrum, 1 qian), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, 1.5 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 0.4 fen).
Immediately after taking the medicine, about a bowl of phlegm was vomited, halving all symptoms; two doses led to recovery.
