Shenping Decoction (Reviewing and Leveling Decoction): Applicable in years where the Metal Qi is excessive or deficient. In years of Mao and You, when Yangming Dryness Metal governs the upper half of the year, patients may present with internal heat, facial edema, rhinorrhea (runny nose), yellowish-red urine, severe cases involving strangury (dysuria), or infection by epidemic pestilence qi, sudden collapse, tremors and delirium, cold malaria, carbuncles, and hematochezia (blood in stool). It is appropriate to use this formula to level the Metal Qi, hence named "Shenping" (Reviewing and Leveling).
Ingredients: Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), Zitan Xiang (Sappan Wood) (each 1 liang); Tianmendong (Asparagi Radix), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) (each 1 fen); Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Baizhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) (each 0.5 liang).

The above five formulas constitute the Five Elements' Leveling Qi Decoctions. When encountering years corresponding to the normal musical tones (Pingqi years), these formulas are not required, as detailed in the previous records of Yun (Five Movements). For example, the Wood movement in Taijiao years is called "Fasheng" (Generating), representing excess; Shaojiao years are called "Weihe" (Yielding Harmony), representing deficiency; only Zhengjiao years are called "Fuhe" (Spreading Harmony), representing balanced Qi. Whenever encountering years of excess or deficiency, one may consider adding or subtracting based on these five Leveling Qi Decoctions, which may certainly provide benefit.
