One prescription: Large spiders (those weaving webs in the corners of eaves, five pieces, dried.) ground into fine powder, mixed with butter and wine to a consistency like face cream, applied twice daily.
Another prescription: For wind-induced swelling, scrofula (Lymphadenitis), and red swelling, use Di Song (Dandelion, *Taraxacum mongolicum*). Crush into powder. Mix with sesame oil for external application; fresh ones are crushed and applied directly.
*Waitai Mi Yao* (Secret Essentials of the Outer Cabinet) for treating sores: Silkworms infested by fungi (fried, ground into powder.) Mixed with water, take 5 fen orally, once daily, effective within half a month.
One prescription: Purslane (*Portulaca oleracea*) dried in shade, burned to ash retaining its properties, mixed with lard from the twelfth lunar month for application. First, soak and wash the sore with warm rice-washing water, dry it, then apply the medicine, twice a month.
*Zhou Hou Bei Ji Fang* (Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies): For early-stage scrofula resembling toxic nodules, it is advisable to eliminate them quickly. Kelp (*Laminaria japonica*, one jin, washed clean.) Steeped in one sheng of wine for several days, drink slowly to allow spontaneous resolution.
Another prescription: Collect sesame flowers at sunrise on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month, and hemp leaves on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Dry both ingredients and form them into moxa cones. Apply 100 moxibustion treatments (Zhuang) on the affected area; this is effective.
Another prescription: Use raw Scrophulariae Radix (Xuan Shen, *Scrophularia ningpoensis*) mashed and applied externally, changing twice daily.
In the *Ling Shu · Han Re Pian* (Spiritual Pivot · Cold-Heat Chapter), the Yellow Emperor asked: What qi causes cold-heat scrofula in the neck and axilla? Qibo replied: These are all cases of Shu Lue (Rat Scrofula/Tuberculous Lymphadenitis), caused by cold-heat toxic vapors remaining in the vessels without dissipating. The Yellow Emperor asked: How to remove them? Qibo said: The root of Shu Lue lies in the Zang organs, while its branches emerge upwards between the neck and axilla, floating in the vessels, not yet deeply rooted in the muscles, but manifesting externally as pus and blood; these are easy to remove. The Yellow Emperor asked: How to remove them? Qibo said: Please follow the root to guide the branch, which can cause decline and eliminate cold-heat. Carefully examine the meridians to select points, entering and withdrawing needles slowly to dispel the pathogen. Those small as wheat grains respond after one puncture and are cured after three. (Note: The classic states that the branches emerge from the neck, shoulders, and clavicular fossa; points should be selected from the Hand and Foot Shaoyang meridians. Acupuncture and moxibustion refer to the following acupoints:)
Tianjing (TE10), Jianjing (GB21), Quchi (LI11) (Moxibustion 5 Zhuang each). Zhoujian (Extra point above elbow tip) (All the above points belong to the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian.)
For sores emerging below the cheek or at Jiache (ST6), points should be selected from the Hand and Foot Yangming meridians, referring to the following acupoints:
Hegu (LI4), Zusanli (ST36) (Moxibustion 7 Zhuang each).
One method: Raise the hand palm-up to the shoulder slightly, the tip of the elbow bone is the acupoint. Moxibustion is applied according to the location of the sore; if the sore is on the right, moxa the right hand; if on the left, moxa the left hand. The moxa cone should be the size of a chopstick head. Repeat moxibustion as before; after three times, there will be no recurrence. If suffering for four years with no improvement from medication, applying moxa at Chen hour (7-9 AM) will result in rupture/shedding at Shen hour (3-5 PM), indicating deeper pathogenic influence; three sessions of moxibustion will bring relief. Additionally, place slices of garlic on the sore and moxa 5-7 Zhuang, replace garlic and continue moxibustion; multiple applications yield good results.
Another method: Tie a thread around the neck, let it hang down to the nipple level, mark the position where it crosses the center of the spine with a copper coin; this is the acupoint. Apply 5 Zhuang of moxibustion. After moxibustion, administer purgative or promoting circulation medicines.
