(Continued from above) Take one jin of sesame oil, and boil it with refined oil and lead tetroxide (Huangdan). Add seven stalks of green onion sequentially, boiling until scorched. Stir with a locust branch; when a drop does not disperse in water, lift off the heat. Add frankincense (Ruxiang), myrrh (Moyao), calomel (Qingfen), borneol (Bingpian), and musk (Shexiang), mix evenly, and store in a porcelain vessel for use.
Hupo Gao (Amber Ointment): Treats scrofula (Luo Li) in the neck and nape. Initially presenting as plum-sized nodules, the swelling becomes hard and gradually forms a beaded chain. It neither dissipates nor suppurates, or if it ulcerates, pus flows incessantly, making it difficult to heal over time and potentially forming fistulas. This ointment is applicable to all such conditions.
Ingredients: Amber 1 liang (finely ground), Dried Flower Bud of Clove (Dingxiang) and Dried Rhizome of Costus Root (Muxiang) each 2 liang, Cinnamon Twig Heart (Guixin) 0.5 liang, Cinnabar (Zhusha) (finely ground), Angelica Dahurica (Baizhi), Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui), Semen Momordicae (Mubie Ren), Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng), Akebia Caulis (Mutong) each 0.5 liang, Lead Tetroxide (Huangdan) 7 liang, Willow Branches (Chui Liu Zhi) 3 liang, Pine Resin (Songzhi) 2 liang, Sesame Oil (Mayou) 1 jin 2 liang.
Preparation and Usage: Sift the five herbs—Amber, Clove, Cinnabar, Cinnamon Twig Heart, and Costus Root—into a fine powder. Chop the remaining herbs finely and soak them in oil overnight. Place in a cauldron and simmer slowly. When the Angelica Dahurica turns scorched yellow, strain out the dregs. Add the pine resin powder, filter to remove residue, and clarify again. Return the oil to the cauldron and simmer slowly. Add Lead Tetroxide and stir continuously with a willow branch until the mixture turns black. Test by dropping into water; it should form a bead that does not disperse. Adjust consistency as needed, then add the amber powder mixture and stir evenly. Store in a porcelain vessel. For application, spread on paper according to the size of the lesion and apply externally.
Cuiyu Gao (Jade Green Ointment): Treats scrofula and also sores/ulcers.
Ingredients: Asphaltum Judaeum (Li Qing) 4 liang, Beeswax (Huangla) and Verdigris (Tonglu) each 3 liang, Myrrh (Moyao) 1 qian.
Preparation and Usage: First, grind the verdigris into a fine powder and blend with sesame oil. Melt the asphaltum and beeswax over fire. Add the fine verdigris powder and stir evenly over heat. Then add the myrrh and stir evenly. Pour the mixture into a cup of river water, pull and stretch by hand to ensure uniformity, and wrap in oil paper. Divide according to the size of the sore. Chew the piece, mold into a cake, apply to the sore, seal with paper, and change every three days.
Fengfang Gao (Honeycomb Ointment): Treats scrofula caused by the confluence of heat-toxin and qi-toxin.
Ingredients: Honeycomb (Lufengfang), Snake Slough (Shetui), Radix Scrophulariae (Xuanshen), Cnidium Fruit (Shechuangzi), Astragalus Root (Huangqi) each 3 fen, Almond (Xingren) 0.5 liang, Human Hair (Luankua) equivalent to the size of a chicken egg, Lead Monoxide (Qiandan), Beeswax (Huangla) each 2 liang.
Preparation and Usage: Moisten the first five herbs slightly with wine and let stand overnight. Boil human hair and almonds in half a jin of sesame oil until scorched black. Filter cleanly. Return to the cauldron and simmer slowly until a drop does not disperse in water. Then add lead monoxide and beeswax, boil for five to seven boils, pour into a ceramic basin, spread, and apply to the sore. Change once daily.
Wash and Apply Medicine:
Decoct Angelica Dahurica (Baizhi) and Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjie) in water. When warm, dip a soft cloth in the decoction to wash the area, dry it, and apply a good quality ointment.
Apply Medicine:
Pinellia Tuber (Banxia) (raw), Arisaema Rhizome (Nanxing) (raw) each 2 qian, Dragon's Blood (Xuejie) 1 qian, Calomel (Qingfen) a small amount. Grind all into a fine powder and mix with saliva for external application.
Another Prescription: Treats rat scrofula (Shu Lou). Burn one cat skull to ash, mix with 1 qian of musk (Shexiang). Grind to an extremely fine powder and apply with refined oil.
Another Prescription: Yellow Catfish (Huangsang Yu) (butterflied), insert 21 castor beans (Bimazi), tie tightly with cotton thread, and throw into a latrine pit. Leave for three months in winter, two months in spring and autumn, one month in summer. Retrieve, wash clean, seal with yellow mud, and roast over mild to strong fire until charred but retaining medicinal properties. Grind to a fine powder and apply with sesame oil. Also treats sores.
Longquan San (Longquan Powder): Treats scrofula that has not yet ulcerated; application causes spontaneous resolution.
Ingredients: Longquan Powder (i.e., thick slurry from whetstones, preferably bluestone) and Tile Dust (Wafen) each 0.5 liang, Kelp (Kunbu), Curcuma Wenyujin (Guangzhu), Burreed Tuber (Sanleng) each 2 qian.
Preparation and Usage: Grind all into a fine powder, mix with boiled water, and apply topically. This method removes phlegm accumulation particularly quickly. Change once daily.
Luohui San (Snail Ash Powder): Roast large field snails (with shell) to ash and grind to a fine powder. For ulcerated lesions, sprinkle dry powder directly; for non-ulcerated lesions, mix with sesame oil and apply.
