File gold and silver into fine powder, and grind a small amount of mercury (Hydrargyrum) into a paste.
Take ten jin of Chuanpi Xiao (Natrii Sulfas from Sichuan), four jin of radish (Raphani Fructus), and one dou of water, boil them together. Remove the radish, place the liquid in a porcelain jar to clarify. After overnight settling, discard the clear water on top. Filter out the settled salt, dry it in the wind until it becomes a frost-like powder; this is Fenghua Xiao (Efflorescent Natrii Sulfas).
Crush Huaruishi (Flower Stalactite Stone) that is pale yellow in color. For every ten liang of Huaruishi, mix with two liang of Liuhuang (Sulfur). Place in an earthenware jar and calcine over high fire until it resembles powder. Grind extremely finely for use. Applied externally to metal wounds (Jinchuang), it has miraculous effects. Ge Kejiu used this to stop hematemesis (vomiting blood); it can transform blood into fluid, acting with miraculous speed.
Cut fresh Jinzhu (Golden Bamboo) into sections approximately one chi long. Retain the nodes in the middle, remove the nodes at both ends, and split each section in half. The quantity is not restricted. Support the bamboo on two bricks so that both ends extend about two cun beyond the bricks. Place a porcelain dish under each end. Use fierce heat to fumigate and force the juice out; the liquid will drip from both ends into the dishes. Continue until the bamboo naturally drains completely. Use the drained bamboo as fuel, then place new bamboo on the bricks and repeat the process as needed.
The method for extracting Jingli (Buckthorn Juice) is the same as for Zhuli (Bamboo Juice), but select thick Jing branches, remove twigs, cut them to uniform length, arrange them on bricks, apply intense heat underneath, and collect the dripping juice from both ends.
Grind together Hydrargyrum (Mercury) 2 liang, Yan (Salt) 1 liang, Mingfan (Alumen) 1 liang, Zaofan (Ferrous Sulfate) 1 liang, and Xiao (Saltpeter) 0.5 liang. Grind until no visible particles of mercury remain. Prepare a sealed jar, load the mixture, seal the jar mouth tightly with an iron lamp saucer, and bind securely with iron wire. Place on a Baiyanlu (Hundred-Eye Furnace). First refine using mild fire (Wenhuo), then strong fire (Wuohuo) for three incense sticks' duration. Add water to the lamp saucer to cool. Once cooled, remove. The substance sublimated onto the underside of the saucer should be scraped off as powder/frost; the precipitate at the bottom can be used to wash sores/toxins or applied externally to swellings.
Take any amount of Lead (Plumbum), melt it in an iron pot over fierce heat. Once melted, stir-fry with firewood for a long time until it turns to ash. If active lead is unavailable, heat the pot fiercely, roast the red-dried lead again for a hundred cycles, let it cool after removing from fire, grind extremely finely, and decoct into a paste for excellent results.
Select truly dry Doufen (Bean Powder) that makes a rustling sound when rubbed between fingers, and which has been sifted. For every jin of powder, add 0.5 jin of genuine Suzhou Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium). Lightly mist with water to make slightly damp, mix evenly with the bean powder. Pack loosely into a porcelain jar without compacting, seal tightly, and steam in a water bath for the duration of cooking a meal. Leave overnight, open, remove the mint leaves, add 0.5 jin of white sugar to the purified powder, grind uniformly, and take orally.
