There are twenty-three acupoints on the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian: Guanzhong (LI16, note: actually SJ1), Yemen (SJ2), Zhongzhu (SJ3), Yangchi (SJ4), Waiguan (SJ5), Zhigou (SJ6), Huizong (SJ7), Sanyangluo (SJ8), Sidu (SJ9), Tianjing (SJ10), Qinglengyuan (SJ11), Xiaoluo (SJ12), Jianliao (GB21), Tianliao (SJ15), Tianyou (SJ16), Yifeng (TE17), Zhi Mai (TE18), Luxi (TE19), Jiaosun (TE20), Ermen (TE21), Heliao (TE22), and Sizhukong (TE23).
The Jing-Well point of the Sanjiao meridian, Guanzhong, is located at the lateral end of the ring finger; the Ying-Spring point, Yemen, is located between the fourth and fifth fingers; the Shu-Stream point, Zhongzhu, is located posterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint of the fourth finger; the Jing-River point, Yangchi, is found in the depression at the dorsal wrist crease; the Luo-Connecting point, Waiguan, is located two cun above the dorsal wrist crease; the Jing-River point, Zhigou, is located three cun above the dorsal wrist crease; the Xi-Cleft point, Huizong, is located in the hollow three cun behind the wrist, requiring careful distinction of one cun to avoid error; the Jing-River point, Sanyangluo, is located in the depression lateral to the large arm pulse five cun above the elbow; the Jing-River point, Sidu, is located between the ulna and radius, adjacent to Sanyangluo; the He-Sea point, Tianjing, is located one cun above the olecranon on the lateral side of the elbow; the Jing-River point, Qinglengyuan, is located two cun above the elbow; the Shu-Transport point, Xiaoluo, is sought along the lateral arm towards the elbow; the Shu-Stream point, Jianliao, is located in the center three cun from the shoulder tip; the Shu-Stream point, Tianliao, connects from the upper shoulder end; the Shu-Stream point, Tianyou, is located at the edge of the clavicular fossa; the Shu-Stream point, Tianrong, is located laterally to Tianyou at the back of the head; the Shu-Stream point, Yifeng, is located in the depression behind the mastoid process; the Shu-Stream point, Zhi Mai, is located where the muscle fans out like a chicken's foot behind the ear; the Shu-Stream point, Luxi, is located where the blue veins run behind the ear; the Shu-Stream point, Jiaosun, has an opening at the ear helix; the Shu-Stream point, Sizhukong, is situated in the depression posterior to the eyebrow; the Shu-Stream point, Heliao, is at the junction of the hairline anterior to the ear; the Shu-Stream point, Ermen, is directly opposite the tragus. It is clearly stated that this point is contraindicated for moxibustion.
Diagram of the Gallbladder Organ
The Classics state: The Gallbladder is the official of uprightness, from which decision-making arises; all eleven zang-fu organs depend on the Gallbladder.
The Gallbladder is the organ of purity and clarity. While other fu organs transmit turbid substances, the Gallbladder transmits nothing, hence it is called pure and clear. Deficiency manifests as blurred vision or vomiting; injury to the Gallbladder results in inverted vision.
The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian originates at the outer canthus of the eye, ascends to the vertex/corner of the head, descends behind the ear, follows the neck, running anterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, reaches the shoulder, then crosses posterior to the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian, and enters the supraclavicular fossa (Quepen). Its branch enters the ear from behind, emerges anterior to the ear, and reaches the posterior aspect of the outer canthus. (This section corresponds to the intersection with the Sanjiao meridian.) Another branch diverges from the outer canthus, descends to Daying, converges with the Hand-Shaoyang meridian, reaches the infraorbital region, descends past Jiache, goes down the neck to converge at Quepen, enters the chest below, pierces the diaphragm, connects with the Liver, and belongs to the Gallbladder. It follows the interior of the hypochondrium, emerges at Qichong, surrounds the pubic region, and transversely enters the hip joint. The straight branch descends from Quepen into the axilla, follows the chest passing through the costal margin, descends to converge with the hip joint, runs down the lateral thigh, emerges at the lateral knee, descends anterior to the fibula, reaches the end of the Juegu (fibular head), emerges anterior to the lateral malleolus, follows the dorsum of the foot, and enters the space between the fourth and fifth toes. A branch from the dorsum of the foot enters between the big toe, follows the medial side of the first interphalangeal bone, emerges at its tip, returns to penetrate the nail bed, and emerges at the hair tuft. There are forty-three acupoints in total, eighty-six bilaterally.
Tongziliao (also known as Taiyang, also known as Qianguan) is located 0.5 cun lateral to the outer canthus. It is the meeting point of the Hand-Taiyang, Hand-Shaoyang, and Foot-Shaoyang meridians. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 grains. [Indications] Itching eyes, corneal opacity, blindness, difficulty in distant vision, excessive tearing and discharge.
Tinghui is located in the slight depression anterior to the ear, one cun below Shangguan in the pulsating hollow; obtain it by opening the mouth. Needle 0.3 cun, moxa 3 grains.
