Zouma Yagan (Horse-running Gangrene of the Teeth) is mostly caused by Qi deficiency with pathogenic invasion, as well as retained food stagnation that lingers and does not dissipate. Accumulated heat transforms into warmth, and deficient heat qi steams upward, or it results from consuming sweet, sour, salty, or greasy foods. Although the Spleen favors sweet flavors, long-term stagnation breeds heat that steams upward to the mouth, causing teeth to turn black and rot, with clear blood occasionally oozing out. Blood accumulates to form pus, which becomes foul-smelling and breeds worms that erode the oral cavity and teeth. In severe cases, the cheeks and chin may perforate, making breastfeeding and eating difficult. The complexion appears shiny and puffy, with panting and fever attacks. This condition is named Zouma Yagan (Horse-running Gangrene of the Teeth). It should be primarily treated with Lushui Wan (Aloe Pill), and externally applied with Shaoyan San (Burnt Salt Powder) or Tongqing San (Chlorite Powder). If it persists without healing, applying powder above and below the lips leads to Pengsha Zheng (Borax Syndrome), or teeth fall out with bone exposure, reduced diet, shortness of breath, and phlegm rattle, inevitably leading to a critical state.
Neijin San: Treats children's gum roots becoming foul, rotten, and black, with pain caused by worms.
Jineijin (Chicken Gizzard Membrane, i.e., the inner yellow skin of the chicken gizzard, dried in shade and powdered, 1 liang) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, 5 qian) Tongqing (Chloritum, 1 qian) Shexiang (Moschus, 1 zi)
Grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Mix with warm salt water and apply inside the mouth.
Lixiao San: Treats Yagan (Gangrene of the Teeth).
Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) Bai Kufan (Alumen Exsiccatum) Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) (each 1 qian)
Grind all ingredients into an extremely fine powder. Mix with rice washing water and apply inside the mouth.
Zhenhuang San: Treats Zouma Yagan (Horse-running Gangrene of the Teeth).
Jinei Zhenhuangpi (True Yellow Skin of Chicken Gizzard Membrane, quantity unspecified, charred over an oil lamp until the nature remains, ground into an extremely fine powder; add Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Baifan (Alumen), and Shexiang (Moschus, 1 zi). Mix with rice washing water and apply inside the mouth.)
Shaoyan San: Treats pediatric Zouma Yagan (Horse-running Gangrene of the Teeth) with flesh ulceration and black rot.
Xiangdou (Quercus Fructus Shell) Yan Shi (Sodium Chloride) Shexiang (Moschus)
Take large Xiangdou (Quercus Fructus Shell), fill with Yan Shi (Sodium Chloride), seal two shells together, or five to seven shells. Place them in charcoal fire and burn thoroughly along with the salt. Remove and place on the ground, covering with a tile to extinguish fire toxicity. After cooling, take out and grind into powder. Add a small amount of Shexiang (Moschus) and grind together into an extremely fine powder. Mix with rice washing water for application. Do not wrap in paper; store in a tile box, as the salt content maintains moisture.
Generally, children's Zang-Fu organs are fragile. Overconsumption of milk and food damages the Spleen and Stomach. It is crucial to regulate properly, avoiding excess or deficiency. Otherwise, damage to the Spleen and Stomach results in a pale complexion, cold air in the mouth, loss of appetite for milk and food, vomiting, emaciation, weakness, and abdominal pain. In such cases, one should tonify the Spleen and benefit the Stomach. For all people, Stomach Qi is the root; treating disease is no different. Stomach Qi can be deficient or excess. Deficiency presents with vomiting and inability to eat; excess presents with fullness and internal heat. Deficient conditions require tonification, while excess conditions require purgation. Achieving balance is the goal. Pingwei San (Peaceful Stomach Powder), Guanyin San (Guanyin Powder), and Yihuang San (Yellow-Enhancing Powder) are essential formulas for strengthening Stomach Qi and can be used to treat according to syndrome differentiation.
