Apoplexy, Jue (Syncope/Reversal), and Wind-like Disorders. Conditions such as Corpse Jue (Shi Jue), Phlegm Jue (Tan Jue), Qi Jue (Qi Syncope), Blood Jue (Xue Jue), and Wine Jue (Jiu Jue) also resemble Zhong Feng (Wind Stroke). Zhu Danxi stated: Various Bi (Obstruction) syndromes present with symptoms similar to Wind diseases.
Zi He said: All Wind disorders characterized by tremors and dizziness belong to Liver Wood. Trembling, vertigo, eye stiffness, and hand convulsions/spasms are all manifestations of the pathological activity of the Jueyin Liver Wood. The Classics state: When Wind pathogen is excessive, it should be pacified with Pungent-Cool substances. Why does the world use Hot-natured drugs to treat Wind pathogens? In my treatment of Jing Feng (Startled Wind), Xian Bing (Epilepsy), and Wei Syndrome (Flaccidity Syndrome), I utilize the three methods of Sweating (Han), Vomiting (Tu), and Purging (Xia) according to the syndrome for cure. "When Wood is depressed, unblock it" refers to using the Vomiting method to allow the Qi mechanism to become smooth and unobstructed. Sweating allows the Wind to exit with sweat. Purging eliminates the old and generates the new. For symptoms such as aphonia, mental confusion/restlessness, and deviation of the mouth and eyes, San Sheng San (Three Holy Powder) can be used to induce vomiting. If the jaw is tightly clenched, administer the medicine into the nasal cavity; once phlegm is vomited out, the mouth will naturally open. Subsequently, employ Tong Sheng San, Liang Ge San, Da Ren Shen Ban Xia Wan, and Gan Lu Yin—cold-natured drugs that clear heat and nourish fluids—for application.
Yan Yonghe stated: When a person's Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is strong, Ying Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) are harmonious, and the Cou Li (interstices/skin pores) are dense, how can external pathogens cause harm? However, due to emotional disturbances (Seven Emotions), improper diet, or overexertion, the True Qi may first become deficient, causing Ying Wei to lose their rhythm, allowing pathogens to enter through the deficiency, thereby inducing this disease. If caused by internal injury from the Seven Emotions, the treatment principle should be to regulate Qi, not to treat Wind directly; if caused by external invasion of the Six Excesses (Six Pathogenic Factors), one should also first regulate Qi, and then treat based on the specific nature of the invaded Six Qi. This is an excellent method. Ba Wei Shun Qi San (Eight-Ingredient Powder to Smooth Qi) is suitable.
For those with severe Phlegm obstruction, presenting with deviation of the mouth and eyes and inability to speak, the Vomiting method should be employed. If one induction of vomiting is insufficient, repeat it. For mild cases, administer one dose of Gua Di San (Melon Stalk Powder), or Xi Xian San (Thin Saliva Powder), or shrimp juice. Take half a jin (approx. 500g) of shrimp, add sauce, green onion, ginger, etc., boil in water, eat the shrimp first, then drink the juice, and finally use a goose feather to stimulate the throat to induce vomiting of phlegm. The reason for using shrimp is to guide the Wind pathogen outwards. For severe cases, use 0.5 qian or 3 fen of Li Lu (Veratrum Root), add a small amount of She Xiang (Musk), and take mixed with vinegar juice to induce vomiting. If the patient has clenched jaws and is comatose, instill the medicine into the nose to induce vomiting. Those with deficiency constitution cannot undergo vomiting. And those unable to expel phlegm are considered incurable.
