Tiantu (ST22) [Acupoint: Tiantu, located at the suprasternal fossa] (Treats all early-stage goiters and tumors; moxibustion is excellent. The acupoint is located in the depression below the laryngeal prominence, moxa seven moxa cones.)
Jianyu (LI15) [Acupoint: Jianyu, located in the depression between the acromion and humerus when the arm is abducted] (Located in the depression between the two bones at the shoulder end of the left upper arm bone; take the point with the arm raised. For males, moxa eighteen cones on the left shoulder and seventeen on the right; for females, moxa eighteen cones on the right shoulder and seventeen on the left. The area behind both ears at the hairline can also be moxa'd.)
Huizong (SI7) [Acupoint: Huizong], Tianfu (LU3) [Acupoint: Tianfu], Chongyang (ST42) [Acupoint: Chongyang], Qishe (ST11) [Acupoint: Qishe] (The above acupoints treat goiters and tumors; apply moxibustion to all.)
Taiping Shenghui Fang (Imperial Grace Formulas of Taiping Era): Treats goiter qi, tubercles, swelling, and hardness. Use one liang of Kelp (Eckloniae Stipe / Eckloniae Herba), wash away the salt, dry it, and pound it into powder. Take one qian each time, wrap it in silk, soak it in good vinegar, hold it in the mouth and swallow the saliva; when the flavor is exhausted, hold it again.
Zhouhou Fang (Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergencies): Treats sudden nodulation under the neck intending to become a goiter. Use one jin of Seaweed (Sargassum Herba / Sargassum Thallus), wash away the salt, soak it in wine and drink it. Do not interrupt; must drink two or three cups frequently; having the smell of wine is ideal.
Shenshi Fang (Deep Teacher's Formulas): Treats goiter qi. Take deer salivary glands (Lu Yanzi), soak them in wine, roast them until dry, then put them back into the wine to make them fragrant again. Hold in the mouth and swallow the juice; change when the flavor is gone. Ten sets will cure it.
Waitai Mi Yao (Secret Essentials of the Outer Cabinet): Treats throat conditions, using a piece of fleshy tissue from the pig trachea, roasted on new tile, taken with wine before sleep.
Another prescription: Extremely effective for treating goiters. Use the "clever tongue" (likely referring to specific throat tissue or gland) and approximately two cun of brittle bone from the throat inside a black ox or yellow ox. One cun connects to the fan-like brittle bones on both sides. Roast or boil thoroughly. Take immediately before sleep while lying on the back. Chew the clever tongue more, hold it longer, then swallow. The person's appearance will surely become thinner, and the goiter will naturally disappear. Within two or three doses, it is extremely effective.
Another prescription: Store Pyrite (Natural Copper / Natural Iron Pyrites) in a porcelain vessel with water. Drink only the water from this vessel daily; the goiter will naturally disappear. Alternatively, inhaling the smoke from burning it for a long time is also effective.
Another prescription: Bind the root of the goiter/tumor tightly with a strap (Pipa Le); extremely effective.
The Classics state: Goiter qi and tubercles all belong to Heat.
Yuan Bing Shi (Treatise on Original Disease Patterns) says: Tubercles are caused by Fire Qi. When heat is severe, it stagnates and becomes hard, like a pit in a fruit. There is no need to ulcerate or disperse it; simply allowing the Heat Qi to dissipate will cause it to vanish naturally.
Danxi says: Tubercles in the neck, arms, or body resembling swellings/toxins are mostly located between the skin and fascia. This is due to Damp-Phlegm flowing and accumulating, forming nodules that do not disperse. If tubercles in the neck persist for a long time without dispersing, they often become Scrofula (Luo Li). It is best to treat them early. People often neglect them, leading to stubborn diseases and long-term neglect of regulation.
