The *Classic of Internal Medicine* states: "All pain, itching, sores, and ulcers belong to Heart Fire." The viscera and bowels of children inherently possess excessive fire. Furthermore, due to irregularities in diet and lifestyle, external contraction of wind-cold stagnates and transforms into heat. Internally, this is compounded by the fire from breast milk, the five flavors, and the seven emotions. When this pathogenic factor manifests internally, it causes internal fright; when it manifests between the skin and muscles, it results in sores, tinea, boils, and toxic swellings. The treatment method should first focus on regulating the nursing mother, strictly avoiding certain foods, and subsequently harmonizing the child's Qi and Blood. One must not use harsh purgative or dispersing agents abruptly; instead, gentle harmonization should be employed to adhere to the correct therapeutic principles.
Children should not point at the moon with their fingers; otherwise, sores may appear behind the ears, a condition named "Moon Erosion" (Yueshi). Apply powder made from Bufo bufo gargarizans (Xiamu) topically.
*Rosae Ramulus Powder* (Qiangwei San): Treats pediatric Moon Erosion sores.
Ingredients: Rosae Tenuifoliae Radix et Rhizoma (Qiangweigen, 4 qian), Sanguisorbae Radix Cortex (Diyupi, 2 qian), Calomelas (Qingfen, 5 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. First wash the affected area with salt water solution, then apply the powder.
Sores appearing on the glabella of children are named "Chain Silver Sores" (Lianyin Chuang).
*Gold and Silver Powder* (Jinyin San)
Ingredients: Jin Yin Guo (1 unit), Calomelas (Qingfen, 5 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into a fine powder and mix with Sesame Oil for topical application.
When children suffer from heat accumulation damaging the Lungs, since the Lung opens into the nose, sores may appear on the nose with clustered red spots, a condition named "Wind of the Lung" (Feifeng). Alternatively, dampness, erosion, itching, and ulceration may occur on both sides below the nose and at the philtrum, a condition referred to as nasal erosion.
Some sores are painless, but the exudate flowing from them causes new sores to form elsewhere, named "Dripping Leech Sores" (Yinli Chuang). The following prescription is highly effective.
Secret Effective Prescription: Treats yellow fluid exudation causing erosive sores.
Ingredients: Alum Calcined (Kufan), Cuttlebone (Haipiaoxiao) (each 1 qian), Red Halloysite (Chishizhi), Lead White (Qianfen) (each 2 qian), Realgar (Xionghuang, 1 qian), Lithargyrum (Huandan, 2 qian), Calomelas (Qingfen), Camelliae Seed (Hairecha) (each 5 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder and dust dry onto the lesion. If it does not adhere, mix with Sesame Oil for application.
*Clear Metal Powder* (Qingjin San): For applying to eroded sores below the nose.
Ingredients: Verdigris (Tongqing), Alum (Baifan) (each 1 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into powder and apply to the affected area.
Another method involves soaking Bear Bile (Xiongdan) in water to create a solution, which is applied using a chicken feather.
*Alisma Powder* (Zexie San): Treats accumulated heat in the Lung meridian of children, resulting in sores on the nose and erythema/erosion below the nose.
Ingredients: Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie), Curcumae Aromatae Rhizoma (Yujin), Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhiren), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into a fine powder. Decoct Glycyrrhiza in water, take the decoction after meals to mix with the powder. Adjust the dosage according to the child's age and size.
