此治初热,预防要法。
San Dou Tang (Three Bean Decoction): Treats epidemic variola and exanthema. If neighbors in the village have this condition, taking it in advance can invigorate blood and resolve toxicity, thereby preventing infection.
Vigna angularis (Red Adzuki Bean, one sheng) Phaseolus vulgaris var. nanus (Large Black Bean, one sheng) Vigna radiata (Mung Bean, one sheng) Beicao (Northern Grass, three liang)
Wash the three beans thoroughly. Use eight sheng of water and boil until the beans are cooked. Eat the beans and drink the broth freely on an empty stomach every day for seven days; this will permanently prevent smallpox.
Long Feng Gao (Dragon and Phoenix Paste):
Gallus gallus domesticus egg (one) Pheretima aspergillum (Earthworm, live and small, use one; this is the earthworm found in fields)
Make a small hole in the chicken egg, insert the earthworm inside, seal the hole with paper-wrapped skin, and steam it in a steamer until cooked.
Remove the earthworm and feed it to the child. Eating one egg on each Start of Spring annually will prevent smallpox for life. If you sense an outbreak among neighbors, eating one or two eggs is also beneficial.
Du Sheng Dan (Supreme Holy Pill):
Take old Luffa cylindrica fruit, cut three cun near the stem, seal it securely in a clay pot, and burn it with mulberry wood fire until the carbonized nature remains. Grind into powder. Mix with sugar according to the ratio, pound into cakes, and let the patient consume them gradually until finished. Taking this for pediatric variola/exanthema reduces severity or prevents eruption entirely. Burning and steaming for two to three days suffices; if eruption does not occur, administer whenever fever arises to ensure minimal eruption.
Yong Bu Chu Dou Er Wu San (Permanently Preventing Smallpox Two-Five Powder):
Take seven eggs laid by a rooster-containing hen. Select one egg, make a hole, and empty the yolk and white completely. Insert four qian nine fen of bright, high-quality Cinnabar (Zhusha) into the hole, seal with paper, and incubate under a hen. After the chick hatches, the Cinnabar has absorbed the essence of sun and moon over seven days; store for use. Take one young Luffa cylindrica fruit that has matured and dried, burn to ash retaining its medicinal property, and grind into powder. For each dose, mix five fen of Cinnabar and five fen of Luffa ash into fine powder, and take mixed with honey water. After three doses, smallpox/exanthema will not erupt. It is suitable to take when neighbors have smallpox.
At the initial stage of fever, it is urgent to induce sweating to release the pathogenic factors. This allows the fetal toxins within the zang-fu organs and the external pathogenic qi to dissipate through sweat, resulting in sparse eruptions. However, exterior-releasing medicines must be administered before red spots appear. If fever is intense, eruptions will likely be severe. Immediately decoct Jia Wei Bai Du San (Modified Decoction to Overcome Toxins) and mix with San Su Bing (Three Crisp Cakes), taking it hot to release the exterior. It is necessary to induce profuse foul-smelling sweat throughout the body so that toxic vapors disperse from the surface, ensuring sparse eruptions. Adding ground real Rhinoceros Horn (Xijiao) is especially excellent. If San Su Bing is unavailable, decoct Bai Du San mixed with Chen Sha (Cinnabar) powder for exterior release. Additionally, finely grind Chen Sha powder and apply around the eyes, or use Huang Bo Gao (Phellodendron Ointment), to avoid ocular complications.
At the initial stage of fever, symptoms resemble Taiyang disease (Cold Damage), creating diagnostic uncertainty. Signs such as cold ears and sacrum, yawning, coughing, and facial flushing indicate impending eruption. It is appropriate to take Sheng Ma Ge Gen Tang (Kudzu and Cimicifuga Decoction) added with Shan Zha (Hawthorn) and Niu Bang Zi (Arctium Fruit). The eruptions will emerge sparsely and heal easily.
At the initial stage of fever, aversion to cold with high fever, clear nasal discharge, and cough with phlegm are caused by wind-cold invasion. Use Shen Su Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Drink) or apply Zi Cao Gao (Arnebia Ointment) to release the exterior.
If heat is extreme leading to mania, delirious speech, restlessness, and thirst, immediately decoct Bai Du San mixed with Chen Sha powder to resolve the heat.
At the initial stage of fever, abdominal pain and distension occur because toxic vapors struggle against external pathogens, wanting to erupt but unable to do so. Use Shen Su Yin, removing Ren Shen (Ginseng) and Fu Ling (Poria), adding Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit) and Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel) to release the exterior.
For cases where extreme heat causes hematemesis and epistaxis, yellow complexion, black stool, continuous blood stasis, and all types of hemorrhagic syndromes, Xi Jiao Di Huang Tang (Rhinoceros Horn and Rehmannia Decoction) is indicated.
Convulsions and tremors during high fever are considered auspicious signs. Use Hong Xian San (Red Thread Powder) mixed with Chen Sha Liu Yi San (Cinnabar Six-to-One Powder) to release the exterior. For excessive phlegm obstruction and unconsciousness, administer Bao Long Wan (Protect Dragon Pill) dissolved in Bo He Tang (Mint Decoction).
When fever precedes eruption accompanied by lower back pain, urgently take Shen Jie Tang (Divine Resolution Decoction) to induce sweating. Continue until back pain ceases; if not relieved, administer another dose to prevent eruptions involving the Kidney meridian.
For abdominal pain due to accumulated cold, or vomiting and diarrhea due to Stomach cold, use Li Zhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) added with Sha Ren, Chen Pi, and Xiang Fu to warm and vent the condition.
In cases where heat toxin is inherently strong, inducing sweat with exterior-releasing medicine to reduce fever is ideal. All other miscellaneous symptoms arise because the toxic vapors desire to erupt but cannot. Only exterior-dispersing methods should be used to allow toxic vapors to vent; then, various symptoms will naturally recede, and eruptions will be sparse.
This is the crucial preventive method for treating the initial heat stage.
