一月一次,或两三次者,屡患屡刺,莫之能愈。愚惟虑人之生命以气血为主。故丹溪曰∶气血和,一疾不生;

[Pathogenesis]
The syndrome of "Green Veins" (Qingjin) originates from rebellious Qi causing blood stasis, allowing evil blood to attack the Heart. It is mostly caused by clashes of anger, or depression leading to stagnant Qi that fails to disperse, or injury from cold and raw foods after anger, or contraction of cold-dampness after sexual exhaustion. This results in mental confusion, palpitations and panting, throat obstruction with Qi rebelling upward, vomiting, hiccups, nausea, dizziness of the head and eyes, fullness and stuffiness in the chest and diaphragm, stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, pain in the hypochondrium, lower back, and head, bitter taste in the mouth and dry tongue, bluish complexion and black lips, heavy and tired limbs, and soreness and pain in all joints. Or there may be aversion to cold with high fever, numbness and insensibility over the whole body, cold extremities with tremors, silent muttering without cessation, and loss of appetite. All these symptoms are caused by evil blood attacking the Heart. Since ancient times, no one has discussed this disease; although people suffer from it, there are no effective prescriptions to treat it. The only method is to use a bi needle to prick the green veins on the Quchi (LI11) acupoints of both hands, releasing an innumerable amount of purple blood. Some diseases heal immediately, while others do not heal but turn into severe illnesses. Those who frequently suffer from this may have attacks once a month or two or three times; repeated pricking cannot cure it. I am concerned that human life depends primarily on Qi and Blood. Therefore, Zhu Danxi said: When Qi and Blood are harmonious, no disease arises; when deficient, hundreds of diseases emerge. Moreover, this disease first injures Qi and then damages Blood; those who do not die prematurely from it are rare. Although there is no method to eliminate blood stasis other than needling, we must resort to pricking; otherwise, evil blood will attack the Heart, and rescue will be impossible within moments.
[Treatment]
I formulated a prescription that has repeatedly proven effective, named Baihu Wan (White Tiger Pill). "Baihu" refers to the Metal of the West Lung; "Green Veins" belong to Wood of the East Liver. Using Metal to treat Wood follows the principle that Metal controls Wood; how could any disease fail to heal? The brilliance of this formula lies not only in replacing the suffering of pricking green veins and curing the disease, but also in preventing future afflictions. Is its benefit not great? This formula also treats men with chronic dysentery and hematochezia, women with metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, and all cases of internal injury from falls and blows where blood cannot disperse, causing severe heart and abdominal pain nearly fatal. Taking it yields effects as immediate as the echo of a drumbeat. (Note: This Green Vein disease is common in the North; in the South, it is known as Sha Syndrome.)
[Prescription and Usage]
Baihu Wan (Prepared by Yunlin)
Verse:
Baihu Wan consists of Cinnabar and Ancient Calcined Iron Ore, prepared by Gushenzi to save people from disaster. Powdered from Cypress, washed with water, rolled into pills by hand and dried in the sun. Take one or two cups of distilled liquor as a guide, swallowing fifty pills per dose. Preserving the world from Green Vein syndrome, accumulate merit throughout the nine heavens.
Ancient Calcined Iron Ore (Quantity unrestricted, scrape off impure colored soil, pound into powder, wash with water)
Dry above, do not let it become too dry. Collect when suitable for pill-making. Make pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take fifty pills per dose, adjusting according to severity, taken with distilled liquor. This medicine can regulate Qi, dissipate blood stasis, resolve phlegm, and eliminate stagnation. Treat early signs of Green Vein such as headache, nausea, abdominal pain, lower back pain, generalized pain, and loss of appetite. Take one dose immediately, and blood will disperse at once. If three to five days pass and the condition becomes chronic ("old"), take more doses for effect. Also treats heart and abdominal pain, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea in women, diseases caused by anger, chronic bloody and white dysentery, or internal injuries from trauma where blood cannot disperse. Great efficacy upon taking.

Treats women whose Green Veins are caused by emotional distress, followed by palpitations, fever, dry mouth, abdominal distension, nausea, and vomiting. Suitable to take Fenxin Qi Yin (Divided Heart Qi Decoction), added with Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), and Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Shengdi).
