Xuan Gan Feng (Hanging Ulcer Wind), also known as Hou Gan (Throat Ulcer). Its symptoms manifest as small sores growing on the edge of the gum, spreading to fill the mouth. If the fluid from these sores is swallowed into the throat, the ulceration invades the pharynx; this condition is difficult to treat and will lead to death if not treated promptly. One should quickly use Pi Zao San (Arsenic and Jujube Powder). Take 5 fen of Xin Shi (Realgar/Orpiment), place it inside jujube flesh, calcine it until its nature is preserved (Cun Xing), and grind it into powder. Apply and rub onto the affected area several times; vomiting out the toxic saliva leads to immediate recovery. Internally administer Lian Qiao Yin (Forsythia Decoction) and Fang Feng Xiao Du San (Saposhnikovia Detoxification Powder) for treatment. (Bingzhang notes: The prescription should include herbs that clear heat and resolve phlegm, such as Chuan Bai (Phellodendri Cortex), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Chuan Bei (Fritillariae Bulbus), and Ren Zhong Bai (Natrii Uras)).
Feng Ye Feng (Maple Leaf Wind), also called Song Ye Feng (Pine Leaf Wind). Its symptoms include swelling and pain in the throat, feeling as if a leaf is blocking it, preventing the ingestion of medicine and causing loss of voice. There is alternating chills and fever, restlessness in sitting or lying down, and continuous drooling while walking. This condition is extremely difficult to treat. Blow medicinal powder three times daily for three consecutive days. Internally administer Tong Li San (Unblocking and Purging Powder) from the previous volume to guide heat downward. Once the sensation of blockage in the throat like a leaf is relieved, urgently administer several doses of Lian Qiao Yin (Forsythia Decoction) for recovery. (Bingzhang notes: Warming and ascending agents should generally be avoided.)
This wind syndrome initially arises from neglecting the regulation of Ya Xuan (Gum Abscess), Ya Yong (Tooth Boil), or Zhong Feng (Swelling Wind), leading to ulceration and suppuration. With no outlet for the toxin and the situation becoming untenable, the pus and blood are forced outward, transforming into this condition. Alternatively, excessive intake of cooling medicines causes severe coagulation of blood, preventing the dispersion of toxic blood. This may damage the teeth, resulting in rotting gums exposing the tooth bone, which is also difficult to treat. One can wash away the foul odor using Huo Xue Xiao Feng Tang (Invigorate Blood and Dispel Wind Decoction), internally take Xiao Du San (Detoxification Powder), and blow Zhen Hou Mo (True Throat Powder) into the throat for recovery.
Puncture the Shao Shang (LU-11) acupoint with one needle. For males, use the left hand; for females, use the right hand. Life is indicated if blood flows; death if no blood flows. If needling is ineffective, have the patient sleep, grasp their hair, and step on the neck. If still ineffective, use a liquid herbal formula. Use Dan Xing (Arisaema cum Bile, 5 fen), Ku Fan (Alumen, 5 fen), and Pu Huang (Typhae Pollen, 5 fen). If the sputum is red, add Ming Xiong Huang (Realgar); if white, add Peng Sha (Borax); if black, add Xue Jie (Dragon's Blood). (Bingzhang notes: Using Xiong Huang for red sputum is too drying and inappropriate. Black sputum usually indicates untreatability.)
Mix Da Mei Pian (Borneol) with vinegar, and apply with a fine tendon. Or mix Dan Fan (Chalcanthite) with water and apply. If there is excessive phlegm-saliva, rinse the mouth with vinegar mixed with water; self-recovery occurs when the saliva discharges.
