This condition is identical to bilateral tonsillitis (Shuang'e), except that the lesion appears on either the left or right side as a single patch, making it impossible to swallow food and drink. The treatment principle is: for onset on the left, soothe the Liver; for onset on the right, clear the Lungs.
It is also suitable to use acupuncture needles to puncture the affected area and drain toxic blood. However, puncture is only permissible if the affected site protrudes sharply; if it does not protrude sharply, do not puncture. The remaining medication regimen is the same as for bilateral tonsillitis.
When this condition erupts, the entire circumference of the throat becomes red and swollen. In the middle, left, or right of the throat gate (Houguan), there are two patches of white and yellow membranes, twisted and entangled with each other. Entanglement higher up indicates a milder condition, while entanglement lower down indicates a more severe condition. If the disease persists for a long time, it becomes difficult to treat. If red vascular networks are visible along the edges of the membrane, it is treatable; if blackness penetrates to the base, death is certain. This is caused by Yin-toxin emanating from the Liver and Lungs. Treatment must not employ excessive strong-cold clearing methods; Ganjie Tang (Licorice and Isatis Decoction) should be used, with Yulong San (Jade Dragon Powder) insufflated internally into the lesion.
When this condition erupts, the entire circumference of the throat becomes red and swollen, either in the middle-left or middle-right of the throat gate, appearing as a single patch. There are also white and yellow membranes, twisted and entangled. Entanglement higher up indicates a milder condition, while entanglement lower down indicates a more severe condition. If, after ulceration and shedding, red tissue is exposed, the prognosis is good (survival); if black, cooked-looking tissue is exposed, the prognosis is poor (death). This is classified as a Yin syndrome and must not be treated with excessive strong-cold clearing methods. The treatment should utilize Ganjie Tang (Licorice and Isatis Decoction) augmented with Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Chantui (Cicada Slough). Specifically, for left-sided onset, add Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba); for right-sided onset, add Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Sangbai Pi (Mori Cortex).
This condition erupts in the front, back, left, and right of the throat gate. Its shape resembles a leech (another text states: resembling a fish gallbladder), hanging and floating upwards, with a dark color. This is toxin emanating from the Heart and Kidneys. Treatment should employ herbs that clear the Heart, detoxify, lift and raise, cool the Blood, and disperse. Acupuncture puncture is contraindicated. Some practitioners use Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) and Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia), or Bazhen Tang (Eight-Treasure Decoction) for treatment.
This condition is often caused by loud laughing and shouting. It erupts on the left or right of the throat kernel (Tonsil), initially causing swelling and pain throughout the mouth, making eating difficult. After three to five days, it merges into the shape of a clothes hanger. The membrane color varies between yellow and white. This is toxin emanating from the Liver and Lungs. It is treatable within one or two days but becomes difficult to treat if prolonged. The treatment should first involve puncturing the Heche (Jiache/ST6), Hegu (LI4), and Shaoshang (LU11) acupoints to drain a small amount of toxic blood. Subsequently, treat with herbs that clear the Lungs, soothe the Liver, disperse, detoxify, and remove necrotic tissue, and insufflate Yulong San (Jade Dragon Powder) internally into the lesion.
