This condition manifests at the edge of the inner side of the throat bottom (Hou Di), with the position varying不定ly between the left or right. However, there are invariably white or yellow membranes present; without careful observation, they cannot be seen. One must lift the face, open the mouth, and look sideways to examine it. Cases with yellowish-white coloration are easy to treat, while those with dark black coloration are difficult to cure. If the lesion is on the left, soothe the Liver (Gan); if on the right, clear the Lung (Fei). Treatment should employ herbs that remove membranes, raise Yang, dispel wind, and detoxify. Internally, Yulong San (Jade Dragon Powder) should be insufflated into the affected area.
This condition is characterized by nodules (swollen lymph nodes) all over the neck, with toxic heat shifting to the inside and outside of the throat on both sides. The onset originates from the meridians and belongs to Fire (Huo) and Phlegm (Tan). The treatment method should utilize herbs that resolve phlegm, descend fire, dispel wind, and detoxify. Externally, Chonghe San (Harmonizing Powder) should be applied as a compress. If the membrane is white like lard or black like ink-dyed fabric, these are intractable conditions.
This condition arises in front of the epiglottis (Jie Ji), directly opposite the nostrils, developing slowly with a shape resembling a horizontal pillow. The color is yellowish-white, accompanied by excessive saliva and profuse phlegm. Acupuncture yields no blood, and there is no pain; this indicates an internal injury to the Lung orifice. Ganjie Tang (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) modified is appropriate for treatment. If bleeding occurs from the nostrils along with nasal congestion, headache, and dizziness, it constitutes an intractable condition.
This condition manifests on the hard palate. Redness and swelling are common, while the appearance of white or yellow membranes is rare. Nodules are pricked with a needle, while areas without nodules are not punctured. Sudden onset is easy to treat, whereas slow onset is difficult to heal. Pricking causing pain and bleeding indicates a treatable case; pricking causing no pain and no bleeding indicates an untreatable case. This stems from the Heart Meridian affecting the five zang organs. The treatment method uses Lianqiao Xiaodu Yin (Forsythia Detoxification Decoction), added with Qin Jiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), and Jing Jie (Schizonepeta Spike).
This condition manifests within the glottis (i.e., the inner surface of the throat bottom). Initial symptoms include aversion to cold and fever. There are three, five, or seven black and white spots in the glottis. After two to three days, a white membrane floats up. Corresponding to the chest, toxic vapors traverse horizontally in two paths or descend straight down; this is a Yin syndrome (Yin Zheng). When originating from the Heart, one should first prick the meridians to drain toxic blood, then treat with herbs that raise Yang, detoxify, clear the Heart, remove membranes, and dispel wind. Purging and purgative methods must strictly be avoided. Dihuang San (Rehmannia Powder) may be used, and internally, Yulong San (Jade Dragon Powder) can be insufflated. If phlegm persists, accompanied by abnormal breath sounds, hoarseness, or aphonia, fewer than two out of ten patients can be saved.
