Use the ash from burning women's head oil, mixed with wine, taken orally in a dose of three qian.
Take one handful of cypress leaves (Cupressi Cacumen) and one handful of scallion white parts (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), including the roots, and pound them into a paste. Add one large cup of unfermented rice wine (Wuhui Jiu), boil for ten to twenty times until boiling, remove the dregs, and take warm.
On the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, use one gallbladder from a large male pig. Grind alum (Alumen) into fine powder and fill it into the gallbladder until full. Dry it in the shade, remove the skin, and grind it again into fine powder. For every qian of this powder, add three fen of prepared cinnabar (Zhusha) and mix evenly. Take with "rootless water" (rainwater or snowmelt) in an amount equivalent to the edge of three copper coins; recovery will follow. "The edge of three copper coins" refers to "one dao gui," indicating an extremely small quantity.
Boil and drink cypress seeds (Bai Shi); long-term consumption leads to self-healing.
Three liang of pure sesame oil (Mahu You), five qian of real musk-calcined bezoar (Niuhuang), and one liang of alum (Mingfan). Grind these into powder and soak them in the oil. When phlegm-fire flares up, take one or two chi; the phlegm will naturally descend.
This is highly effective for treating asthma-like wheezing. Place a tile on fire until red-hot. Put pigeon droppings on the red tile; they will naturally turn to ash. Grind the ash finely and send it down with good wine. Two or three qian are sufficient for recovery.
Asthma (Xiao) is divided into deficiency and excess patterns. Heat asthma (Re Xiao), salt-induced asthma, and alcohol-induced asthma are all deficiency patterns. Cold asthma (Han Xiao) is an excess pattern. Cold asthma is triggered by cold wind, while heat asthma is caused by heat or summerheat pathogens. The treatment methods differ.
Ophiopogon tuber (Maidong, 3 qian), Platycodon root (Jiegeng, 3 qian), Licorice root (Gancao, 2 qian). Decoct in water and take one dose for immediate recovery. Do not add expectorant herbs; adding them renders the formula ineffective. This prescription cannot eradicate the root cause; other medicines are required.
Stemona root (Baibu, 2 qian), honey-fried licorice root (Zhi Gancao, 2 qian), Platycodon root (Jiegeng, 3 qian), Pinellia tuber (Banxia, 1 qian), Tangerine peel (Chenpi, 1 qian), Poria sclerotium (Fuling, 1.5 qian). Decoct in water and take two doses for recovery.
Fire-calcined cuttlefish bone (Haipiaoxiao) ground into powder. Adults take five qian, children take two qian. Mix well with black sugar and take. One dose eradicates the root cause. If the aforementioned decoction is not taken, only half the effect is achieved. For the aforementioned decoction: add Scrophularia root (Xuanshen, 3 qian) for heat asthma, dried ginger (Ganjiang, 1 qian) for cold asthma, maltose (Yitang, 3 qian) for salt asthma, and Quercus variabilis wood (Zhamu, 3 qian) for alcohol asthma.
Child's tea (Haiercha), Sandalwood (Baitanxiang), Cardamom seed (Baidoukou), Platycodon root (Jiegeng), Ophiopogon tuber (Maidong, heart removed), Argo shell powder (Gefen) (each 1 liang), Fritillaria bulb (Chuanbeimu, 1 liang, heart removed), Southern mint (Nanbohe), Asparagus tuber (Tiangandong, each 5 qian), Costus root (Muxiang, 3 qian), Musk (Shexiang, 2 fen), Real borneol (Zhen Bingpian, 5 fen). Grind all the above herbs into powder. Boil four liang of licorice root (Gancao) into a paste to form pills, sized like wutong seeds. Contain one pill at a time to resolve phlegm, direct qi downward, and stop coughing. The efficacy is miraculous and cannot be fully described.
