The Zhao family in Changshu possessed an ancestral secret formula for *Chan Hou Feng* (Throat-winding Wind, 缠喉风) that was very effective. One day, Mr. Zhao's son was drinking with his friend Zhang. When Zhang asked about the formula, Mr. Zhao did not answer. During the drinking, Mr. Zhao suddenly suffered unbearable throat pain and shouted loudly, "Bring me *Zhu Ya Zao Jiao* (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit, 猪牙皂角)." Upon arrival, it was finely pounded, mixed with vinegar into a paste, and introduced into the throat. After gargling four or five times, large amounts of phlegm were expectorated, and the pain stopped immediately. Zhang told others about this repeatedly, leading to its dissemination. People then used *Zhu Ya Zao Jiao* powder mixed with vinegar applied to the outer neck; when dry, it was replaced. The swollen flesh-like growths would rupture and heal.
