Commentary states: Blood belongs to Ying (Nutritive Qi), and whatever provides nourishment is blood; Qi belongs to Wei (Defensive Qi), and whatever provides fullness and protection is Qi. After childbirth, both Qi and Blood are deficient, and the Chong and Ren meridians (important meridians regulating overall Qi and Blood) are insufficient. If proper care and management are neglected within one hundred days postpartum, it leads to further depletion of Qi and Blood, which cannot provide adequate nourishment, resulting in emaciated skin, withered appearance, and general debility.
