The *Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) states: Among the diseases caused by the five qi, coughing manifests in the Lung. After childbirth, the zang-fu organs are all weak; wind-cold pathogens take advantage of this deficiency to invade the Lungs. The Lung is the "Canopy" (the highest organ covering the other viscera), located in the upper body, with its back-shu points on the back, and externally connecting to the skin and hair. When cold qi invades, it first attacks the Lung. Upon contracting slight cold, the Lung gives rise to coughing.
