Translation:
The treatise states: The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) mentions that there is a disease characterized by fullness and hardness in the lower abdomen, with roots extending up, down, left, and right, named Fuliang (Hidden Beam). It contains large amounts of pus and blood, resides outside the intestines and stomach, and is considered incurable. If treated by forceful pressing, it often leads to death. It also states that some people experience swelling in the body, thighs, and legs, along with pain surrounding the umbilicus; this disease is named Fuliang, which is the root of wind pathogen. Wherever Qi gathers, it is called "Ju" (Gathering); where Qi accumulates and stagnates, it is called "Ji" (Mass). "Ju" belongs to Yang Qi, so it has no fixed location; "Ji" belongs to Yin Qi, so it has a fixed form. Fuliang is the accumulation of the Heart. It originates above the umbilicus, causing fullness and hardness in the lower abdomen with roots in all directions, containing large amounts of pus and blood outside the intestines and stomach, thus causing pain around the umbilicus. This is a disorder of Wind-Water interaction, leading to swelling of the body and thighs, hence named Fuliang because it hides within the body like a beam. Its manifestations vary in depth. If located above the umbilicus, it is a "Ni" (Rebellious) pattern, as the pathogenic factor rebels and moves upward; if located below the umbilicus, it is a "Cong" (Following) pattern, as the pathogenic factor follows the downward trend. The treatment method should not involve agitation; agitating it will cause disorders of difficult urination. Relevant discussions can be found in the chapter on Acupuncture Methods.
