Commentary states: The Baihe disease (Lily Disease) in Shanghan (Cold Damage) refers to a condition where all vessels, originating from one source, are simultaneously affected by pathogenic factors. Its manifestations include: desiring to eat but being unable to do so, often remaining silent, desiring to lie down but being unable to sleep, desiring to go out but being unable to walk, food and drink sometimes tasting delicious, feeling as if there is cold yet as if there is no cold, feeling as if there is heat yet as if there is no heat, bitter taste in the mouth, dark yellow urine, and vomiting and diarrhea after taking medication. This ailment generally arises after severe diseases such as Shanghan or deficiency-consumption disorders, where the Zang-Fu organs are deficient, and Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) are depleted and weak, failing to return to equilibrium, thereby transforming into this disease. Since all vessels share a single origin and are fully affected, without fixed meridian affiliations, the clinical presentations vary significantly; thus, treatment should be tailored according to specific syndromes.
