Discussion states: When Yin pathogenic factors alone become excessive and Yang Qi suddenly declines, Yang is overcome by Yin, resulting in a state where both the interior and exterior are characterized by Yin coldness. This leads to the formation of "Yin Toxin" (Yin Du). In Shanghan (Cold Damage) disease, there are cases where Yin Toxin forms immediately upon contracting the illness, and cases where it transforms into Yin Toxin after taking herbal decoctions for five or six days without improvement. This occurs because the disease fundamentally belongs to the Yin category; excessive intake of cold-natured medicines or exposure to cold within and outside the Zang-Fu organs causes Yin to become even more dominant while Yang fails to recover. The clinical manifestations include cold extremities, severe pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, a sensation as if the body has been beaten, vomiting, diarrhea, and a pulse that is deep, fine, and rapid. These constitute the presentation of Yin Toxin.
