Discussion states: Among the ten types of edema diseases, swelling starting from the feet, accompanied by rebellious Qi and coughing, is called White Water (Bai Shui), with its root in the Lung; swelling starting from the face and eyes is called Green Water (Qing Shui), with its root in the Liver; swelling starting from the abdomen is called Yellow Water (Huang Shui), with its root in the Spleen; swelling starting from the dorsum of the foot is called Black Water (Hei Shui), with its root in the Kidney; swelling starting from the chest/heart area is called Red Water (Chi Shui), with its root in the Heart; swelling starting from the abdomen, alternating between fullness and emptiness, coming and going intermittently, is called Qi Water (Qi Shui), with its root in the Large Intestine; swelling spreading from the head and face to the feet is called Drooping Water (Chui Shui), with its root in the Gallbladder; swelling originating internally with hard masses in the limbs and slight swelling is called Stone Water (Shi Shui), with its root in the Bladder; swelling starting from the limbs with abdominal distension is called Wind Water (Feng Shui), with its root in the Stomach; swelling originating within the abdominal cavity is called Interior Water (Li Shui), with its root in the Small Intestine. All these ten types of water diseases arise from the Zang-Fu organs, each having its own root cause. Investigating their origin reveals that it is essentially the Lung and Kidney. Thus, the *Nei Jing* (Inner Canon) states: "The root lies in the Kidney, the branch lies in the Lung; all are due to water accumulation." It also says: "Body fluids fill the thoracic cavity, the Po (Corporeal Soul) exists alone while the Shen (Spirit) does not reside, essence is isolated internally, and Yang Qi is exhausted externally, so the body becomes emaciated such that clothes no longer fit." This is because Kidney Qi is weak, causing water Qi to swell and attack the Lung upward, leading to the Lung Qi being isolated and critical. The Kidney suffers from water pathogenic factors; as the child organ fails to assist the mother organ, Yin Essence is damaged internally, and Yang Qi diminishes externally. The San Jiao (Triple Burner) becomes blocked and overflow occurs, water pathways are obstructed, water fills the skin, resulting in bodily stagnation and swelling. The methods of treatment are detailed in the *Nei Jing*. Therefore, it is said to balance and weigh the condition, remove accumulated stale pathogens, slightly move the four extremities, wear warm clothing, and apply Miu Ci (diagonal needle insertion) at corresponding sites to restore the form. Open the ghost gates (induce sweating), purify the clean mansion (promote urination), allow essence to recover in time, distribute the five Yang energies, and dredge and cleanse the five Zang organs. Consequently, essence generates naturally, the form prospers, bones and flesh protect each other, and the Great Qi becomes peaceful.
