Discourse states: Fa Bei (Back Carbuncle) is a condition where heat-toxin qi erupts at the Back-Shu points on the back, forming an abscess or ulcer. This disease originates internally from the Zang organs and transmits externally to the Fu organs. Therefore, when heat qi attacks and erupts, it inevitably leads to obstruction of the meridians, causing swelling and worsening toxicity. As stated in the *Classic of Internal Medicine*: "When Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) does not flow smoothly and reverses into the muscle tissue, abscesses and swellings occur." Blood becomes corrupted and flesh rots, leading to various complications. In excess conditions, it manifests as a carbuncle; superficially, it appears as a swelling; deeply, it presents as an ulcer. However, for lesions on the back, they initially appear very subtly between the two scapulae, sometimes itching or hurting. People often neglect them, and within a few days, this can lead to untreatable conditions. Ancients treated this by first measuring the center of the swelling and applying moxibustion, using over one hundred moxa cones, to expel evil qi outward. Then, herbs were used to unblock and purify the Fu organs, draining the pathogenic toxins, thereby creating a possibility for cure.
