Commentary states: The manifestation of nodules forming on the lips is generally similar to lip sores (Chuang) and lip retraction (Jin Chun). However, when the swelling progresses to form distinct nodules, it is because the Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel and the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Channel are exterior-interior paired. Wind-heat pathogenic factors exist within the Zang-Fu organs. The wind-heat qi attacks and stimulates these two channels, clashing with Qi and Blood, resulting in lip swelling. Externally, the area is further invaded by wind-cold pathogens, causing Qi and Blood to coagulate, accumulate, and fail to dissipate, thus generating nodules.
Formula for treating heat accumulation in the Spleen and Stomach, combined with wind-cold clash, resulting in nodules on the lip margin that are hard, knotted, and painful: Fangfeng Tang (Saposhnikovia Decoction).
Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, half liang, forked parts removed), Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi, one liang), Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, radix tip removed), Zhimu (Cortex Anemarrhenae, roasted), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, black heart removed), Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae), Bencao (Radix Ligustici, seedlings removed), Baizhi (Radix Angelicae Dahuricae, roasted and crushed), Maidong (Tuber Ophiopogonis, core removed and roasted). Fifteen ingredients in total. Coarsely crush and sieve. For each dose, use three Qianbi (approx. 4.5g), add one Jian (approx. 200ml) of water, decoct until reduced to seven-tenths. Strain and take after meals, three times daily.

Remove and decoct with three Sheng of lard (Zhu Gao). Filter, then add the Rehmannia juice and the silk-wrapped herbs back into the mixture. Decoct until the moisture in the lard evaporates completely. Strain and store. Take a small amount, hold in the mouth to dissolve slowly, and swallow gradually.
Formula for treating heat in the Spleen and Stomach with wind-cold invasion, causing lip swelling, nodules, and pain: Shengma Yin (Cimicifuga Drink).
